Tempers flare as Salford boss Gary Bowyer PUSHES Swindon player on touchline

Tempers flare as Salford boss Gary Bowyer PUSHES over new Swindon player Jonny Williams on the touchline during Saturday’s game.

The Ammies’ winless start to the League Two campaign continued as Jack Payne’s second-half goal saw Swindon come away from Moor Lane with 1-0 win.

Salford started the more promising, though Robins’ goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott was in great form, blocking out Ian Henderson in a one-on-one situation and then saved Conor McAleny’s low effort early on.

Ben Garner’s side threatened to grab the advantage with Tyreece Simpson nearly capitalising on Tom King’s indecisiveness, however the forward’s lob dropped wide of the target.

Henderson and McAleny found themselves even more frustrated when Wollacott producing an impressive instinctive stop to deny the former from point-blank range.

Salford continued to show just how sloppy they were in front of goal and was punished straight after the restart, with the visitors setting up Payne to emphatically finish into the bottom corner.

When Henderson finally managed to better Wollacott and poke an effort into the Swindon net, his celebrations were cut short having strayed marginally offside.

In front of 2,229 Salford, a frustrated Gary Bowyer was booked for shoving Jonny Williams late on as Salford were resigned to a fourth league outing without a win.

Despite pressing late on, they couldn’t craft the chance needed to equalise, nevertheless while chances are being created there was no concern from the manager post-match with Gary saying: “I think the initial frustration is not winning the game but the way that we’ve performed was outstanding, first half particularly.

“The goalkeeper’s produced numerous saves in the game and we’re delighted with how we’ve gone about the play, we’ll keep working with the players because the process that we’re going through and how we’re playing has been nothing but fantastic.

“That said I think we’ve become the victims of some poor decisions today, I think Tyreik Wright’s is a penalty all day long I don’t understand how that’s not given, then Matty Lund gets sized down as well and that’s, in our opinion having seen it again, another penalty.

“You only have to look then at the goal, again we’ve been fortunate because we’ve seen it back, but the goal’s offside.”

Of the two changes from Tuesday night, loanee Corrie Ndaba impressed at the back in place of Jordan Turnbull. The 21-year-old arrived from Ipswich on loan and only came to The Peninsula Stadium ahead of kick-off, but his performance impressed the Manager.

“We’ve got Corrie that travels four-and-a-half hours last night in the car to come and play, he’s met the lads today at 1 o’clock and the way that he went about it and the performance was terrific.

“We’ve got to thank Paul Cook, Paul Cook was magnificent in allowing him to come up. We knew Jordan Turnbull was struggling but we got it done, big thanks to Karen and Andy Giblin to get that done before 12 o’clock and he drove up.

“He was really keen to come, I met him last night at the hotel and we’re delighted with how he’s performed.”

The Ammies have a week now before Newport County visit The Peninsula Stadium next Saturday, and Gary says they will make the most of it:

“It’s been intense, and it’s up to us now to have a real good week’s work, which we’ve done anyway in the build-up to games, but just to recover a little bit and go again because we’ll keep building on these performances.”
