Swansea City reach out to League Two club Notts County for their manager Luke Williams, but others remain in the frame for the job.
The Championship outfit reportedly have their eyes on bringing in the club’s former assistant manager, who has impressed with the Magpies, currently seeking a second successive promotion.
Williams, 42, have regularly been praise for the brilliant job he’s done in charge of Notts County since his appointment in June 2022, and for the style of play, opting for possession based football.
It’s also claimed by Wales Online that the players want him in too, with Swansea club going to the drawing board having seen top target and preferred candidate Chris Davies opt against taking up the role.

The Welsh outfit were very confident they could have tempted Davies in, but he wants to instead remain as senior assistant coach at Tottenham, meaning the wait for Michael Duff’s successor goes on.
Alan Sheehan is the man in temporary charge for the Swans, and looks even more likely to be in charge for this Friday game against Preston North End.
Elfsborg boss Jimmy Thelin is another name that Swansea were looking at but again could be a difficult one to bring in. He is someone who already spoke with Sunderland, while Stoke have shown interest.

Luke Williams’ side fell to a 3-1 defeat away at Harrogate Town at the weekend, leaving the head coach fuming, and asked whether his players are too scared to play for “a big club like Notts County” following a 3-1 loss at Harrogate.
Notts have having a dodgy patch of late, losing six of their last eight fixtures and are slipping slowly down the table and away from the promotion contender.
“The performance was terrible to be quite honest,” Williams said post-match. “If you want to play for a big club like Notts County, you can’t be scared to play football.
“Nor can you play with such a lack of energy and be so soft defensively. For their first goal, we allowed them to run into space and have a shot no problem and I lost my voice after 15 minutes because I was screaming at the players to react to the turnovers. So, it was very hard for me to communicate after that, not that anyone was listening to me.
“We didn’t make enough forward passes and ended up with our goalkeeper having the ball too many times and Harrogate were very well-organised. But, then, when he had to play it long, nobody wanted to fight for it.
“I feel really hurt and so disappointed because, even when we got back in the game, we then immediately capitulated for their third goal.”
This is what Twitter users said as Swansea reportedly reach out to League Two club for their manager, but others remain in the frame…
@Bristol_jack79: Guy knows the club! Doing OK at Notts County
@_18SixtyTwo: Would be impossible for him to turn down a championship job…
@R6SReesWillz: Williams will be best fit for us, knows the club, knows how we play, deffo can turn us around, deffo can beat the scum 40 miles up the road, deffo will get us playing good football better than duffball
@KieranCraig2016: Wouldn’t mind this one bit tbh
@pozuel0: in due course i will be creating a petition that unequivocally states that we, the fans, DO NOT want luke williams, better known as russell martin v2, at this football club. our goal will be to get 10,000 signatures and a response from the government. #swans
@Wheelbarro77108: Of course they have. And I can genuinely see this one happening ffs. Players have let him down massively recently. Danes needs to guarantee him some serious spending AND a say in signings or else he’s definitely leaving. What a shite start to the week ffs.
@CurtisTheJack: Luke Williams is name I’ll be happy with as he’s a guy that knows the club and can bring the Swansea way back.
@Buurroowwss: If the players are already backing him then has to be the man for me at the minute – Loved the way he spoke about his corner tactics too, could really get us back playing again – Martin links also mean hopefully a quick adaptation to the style 🙏
@MarkJonesRib: I’d be very happy with Luke Williams.
@StevenSOS1987: Encouraged to hear we’re keen on Luke Williams. That would lift my mood after missing out on Chris Davies
@SkintJack: Like I said a few weeks back on here, he’s 100% the man we should’ve been chasing this summer. If it’s in any way possible; get it done ASAP.
@Jamalloweball: Limbs if we get luke Williams however we would need to get some quick wingers in January for it to work as his system at notts heavily relied on wingers
@Tristan24_K: I’d like Tony Mowbray at the swans but hearing Luke Williams is a potential candidate is interesting. Both play good football and have had success. There my top 2, who do you want #swans
@R6SReesWillz: probably our best option right now mate, he’s doing wonderful and county, hopfully if he comes to us, we’ll see the same thing from him, deffo better than duffball for sure hope he keeps the same backroom staff tho
@Bren_ohhh: He was my first choice from the start
@TheSwanPortal: I think if NC were in L1 he’d almost certainly stay. L2 to the Champo is a big change and once again like Martin he would need the right personnel early doors for the way he plays. The package we offer him would also have to be monumental. Middle of the season as well, who knows.
@ZakArcher6: To be honest, I feel like this is the most sensible option we have at this point. The fans will warm to him quite quickly because of his links to Russ, the players know him/want him here, and he believes in a style of play that’s synonymous with the Swansea way. No brainer.
It’ll be so funny if we hire Luke Williams, they’re basically just publicly admitting that letting Russell Martin leave was a mistake.
He’s definitely the best candidate available, a cultural fit and a philosophy that has already proven to be a good fit here.
Hope it gets done. pic.twitter.com/c9P6K0vYKL
