Sunderland player mocks Newcastle – provokes a response from Mags fans

Sunderland player mocks Newcastle United – only to then provoke a response from Mags fans during a question and answer on Friday night.

Chris Maguire, who is one of their most popular players at the Stadium of Light, was asked if he’d rather sign for Newcastle or Rangers.

Speaking in a video, Maguire said: “Declan asked ‘Who would you rather play for; Rangers or Newcastle United?.’

“Let me think about that one.”

Maguire then took a sip from his Hoops-themed treble Treble mug before responding: “None!”

His comment left many on Tyneside laughing, though it quickly got the attention of the Black Cats rivals’ supporters with many stating they wouldn’t want the League One player ‘they hadn’t even heard of!’.

Also in the Q&A, Maguire revealed scoring a hat-trick against AFC Wimbledon at the Stadium of Light in the 2019/20 season is one of two standout moments for him since he joined the club in 2018.

He explained: “I’ve got quite a lot of good memories. The two that stand out at the moment would be my hat-trick that I scored earlier in the season and last year walking out before the match with my kids as mascots. That was a proud moment for me.”

After the Sunderland player mocks Newcastle, fans quickly jumped on the club’s tweet, the Mackems loving what he had to say and their rivals choosing to hit back at him…
