Stoke fans make feelings known to former manager Nathan Jones as Charlton fall to 3-0 defeat

Stoke City fans make their feelings known to former manager Nathan Jones as his Charlton side fall to a 3-0 defeat.

Sorba Thomas scored twice from wayward crosses, with Million Manhoef adding a third as the Addicks collapsed yet again early on, conceding three goals in the opening 45 minutes for the second game running.

The result sees Stoke jump into second place in the Championship, with 30 points from 17 games played, while Charlton are 14th with 23 points from the same amount of games played.

It was another matchday of Jones faces chants of ‘Cheer up Nathan Jones’ and shouts of ‘w*nker’ from fans of his old clubs.

Just four days ago, Southampton fans mocked Nathan Jones in their 5-1 win at Charlton. Saints supporters also sang “Nathan, what’s the score?!” and “Nathan Jones, you’re football is s***”. See more on that HERE.

Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones told BBC Radio London:

“We’ve come here looking to bounce back and that start has killed us because goals change games.

“It’s very difficult to say I’m pleased about anything tonight because we have just lost 3-0 away from home.

“We were really open. We weren’t at the levels we needed to be.

“The first was a stroke of good fortune and the second we feel is a foul and the third is a big error again. You have to defend it better.

“We have been stretched in recent weeks, injury-wise, but it wasn’t good enough.”

Jones, per Sky Sports:

“Really disappointed in terms of the level of performance. We came here on the back of a tough game on the weekend where we were uncharacteristically poor and then to concede after three minutes, you’re on the back foot.

“We were second best all over today. We didn’t really look like scoring. We were powder puff in lots of ways.

“The goals today were really poor, and it doesn’t give you a chance of winning a football game. They grow in confidence then, goals change games, and all we could do then was stem the tide.

“For that to happen in 20-25 minutes after what happened on the weekend it’s a tough one to take because we’ve gone from being the best defensive side in the league to being the worst in two games.”

Stoke City boss Mark Robins told BBC Radio Stoke:

“It probably felt like we were comfortable. We were in front early after two minutes, followed that up and then we were three-up in the first half.

“They had a real go at us. We kept things simple because that was what got us the goals.

“I think it was well-deserved and just reward, really, because the three performances we have had over the last three games, this Coventry and Leicester – it probably wasn’t our best performance of the three.

“We’ve ended up getting three goals, conceding none and winning three points. So, happy days, because I think this moves us up to second.”

Robins, per Sky Sports:

“Sorba deserves all the credit for taking an incredible shot from wide on the left that found the top corner.

“Whether it’s a cross or a shot doesn’t make any difference, it’s in the net, which gave us a really good start to the game.

“From that point on it looked like we just grew in stature, we maintained that intensity to get the second.

“He’s been fantastic, and long may it continue. He’s started off really well 17 games in. Really good games coming up, he’s started off with quality but for him and for us we want him to keep growing and keep being a leader, because he’s becoming a leader in the dressing room and in the club.”

This what how fans reacted on Twitter while Stoke fans make their feelings known to former manager Nathan Jones as Charlton fall to a 3-0 defeat…

@jbennett1997: Lives rent free in so many peoples heads. My manager

@GeorgeMurfet_: 8 goals conceded in 2 games and he’s still managed to rattle both of them 😂

@FarPostFM: Cheers Nath, always an absolute pleasure.

@danlowton97: What a few days for that twat 😂😂😂

@AntonDuSpec: Beaten 8-1 in back to back games by the 2 previous clubs he’s managed at, where the fans fucking despised him and still do. Glorious.

@smit112: You paid him for a job he didn’t have to do.

@HarryCookson: Absolutely rent free 😭😭

@cj_garrett: 2 in a week, lovely stuff

@PowleyJacob: Nathan Jones try not to get thrashed by your former club this week level: impossible.

@IAmTomHall:
Every excuse known to man.
Illness

@StokieCooper_:

Excuse

@Alex_CAFC47: January couldn’t come any sooner. Kaminski, Gillesphey, Doc, Leaburn all need to be dropped. Something needs to be changed. NJ is terrible with his subs, Apter should’ve came on when we changed system to having two wingers it would’ve balanced the team.

@ConnorJfc: This will happen this season. It was never going to be easy. Yes some of us will be angry with this result. I am equally frustrated but we need to realise this chunk of 3 games is as tough as its going to get. Get saturday out the way and get behind them against pompey #cafc
