Stoke City sack their manager after emergency meetings

According to reports, Stoke City have sacked team manager Nathan Jones following what is being called ’emergency meetings’.

The Potters currently sit second from bottom of the Championship table, replacement for Jones is being sought by the club immediately.

Nathan Jones said: “I would like to thank John and Peter Coates, firstly for the opportunity to manage this Football Club and then for the continued support and patience throughout my time here. I would also like to thank the supporters for their fantastic support. Finally, I wish the Club the very best for the future.”

Jones joined the Potters in January from Luton Town and won just three of the remaining 21 matches, finishing 16th. He then failed to win any of the first 10 league matches of this campaign.

It looked as though results were improving, getting back to back wins last month, but with picking up two defeats since, his dismissal is set to be announced.

Sportsmail understands they could now turn to former boss Tony Pulis in a bid to avoid relegation to the third tier, while David Moyes is likely to be interested in the vacancy.
