Stockport County get their number one target with Hartlepool United waving goodbye to manager it would seem this Monday night.
Hartlepool United have confirmed Dave Challinor’s intention to leave the club and join Stockport County.
After taking training as usual on Monday morning, the 46 year old informed the Pools board that he wanted to leave the club to join National League side Stockport County.

Stockport get their number one target with Hartlepool waving goodbye to manager
CLUB STATEMENT:
Dave Challinor has this afternoon informed the Hartlepool United Board that he wants to leave and join Stockport County FC.
This follows an approach by Stockport to the manager through his agent during the course of last week, which Hartlepool United were informed of on Friday.
As a club we were disappointed the first approach did not come direct to the club. Also that this was so soon after Dave signed a new three year contract.
We believed we were building something special with Dave and this squad – matched by the magnificent support the team has received, home and away.
Therefore, we declined a request from Stockport for permission to speak with Dave on Sunday.
However, after speaking to him again on Monday, he has verbally notified us of his intention to leave.
Ultimately, it is crucial that the manager of our club is 100% committed to the job. Dave had made it clear he wants to leave.
Coach Anthony Sweeney will take charge of the team for Tuesday’s fixture with Everton and for the immediate future as interim manager while the Board consider its position in relation to this matter.

HARTLEPOOL MAIL SAY:
After a difficult weekend in London, Pools’ available players had the day off on Sunday before returning to training at Maiden Castle on Monday morning ahead of Tuesday’s match against Everton under-21s (7pm kick-off).
Challinor led Hartlepool back to the Football League last season and recently signed a new three year deal at the club.
But Stockport made the Pools boss their number one target to replace Simon Rusk, who was sacked last week.
Pools currently sit 10th in League Two, getting 23 points from 15 games played, while the Hatters are 9th in the National League with 20 points from 23 games.
Unfortunately for Challinor’s family, they have suffered a huge amount of shocking abuse in reaction to the big news.
As Stockport get their number one target with Hartlepool waving goodbye to manager, this is what fans are saying…
@JacobBr77878122: Wont ever get even close to the love pools showed him !!
@HarryBscfc: Apart from having 5,000 Stockport sing his name on Sunday…he’ll get all the love he deserves pal
@AidanBratt2002: Tony Sweeneys Blue and white army
@KDixon1984: Get 110% behind Sweens! Keep turning up in numbers! Let the chairman do his job and let’s not show ourselves up by abusing Challinor and his family
@paulkeay: What was his saying about people not backing themselves? Mercenary and gone from absolute hero to absolute zero.
@Mogzy1985: Cheers and thank you. I’m not one to wish ill on people but I really hope both sides of his pillow are warm for the foreseeable future.
@phillip19836625: The “massive” club that lets key members/players leave, never heard of that before. Cheers, thank you.
@Dannytempz7: Thanks for the promotion and getting us back where we should be, but to go out like that is just horrific. 2 sides to every story but to sign a 3yr deal and then back out of it 5 mins later is bad form. Thanks Dave, now on your way.
@gemmaharding07: Will never forget what he did for our club but this is low! Have lost all respect for him!
@AndrewSlaughte1: Another example of why money is ruining football. Nobody should ever want to leave a football league club to manage in the national league, that’s no offence the NL clubs.
@JackAshmann: Poor poor from him. Not on the way to win the league by Xmas 2022 back on the job centre. Tony Sweeneys blue and white army
@Thomaslea83: Challinor is the reason we fell back in love with our club and got us back to the promised land and we can’t do anything but thank him for giving us memories like Bristol. Just a shame the way it’s ended.
@martrv69: Good luck for future – if thing were so bad behind the scenes why sign a new contract less that 2 months ago?
@ShinPadNP: Thanks for the promotion Dave, that seemed like a pipe dream before you arrived.
@Mickyburns12: Thanks for all you’ve done for our club dave.. I’m so disappointed but obviously youhave your reasons.. unfortunately thats the nature of football hope you’ve learned Antony sweeney well…end of the day we,ll Just roll our sleeves up and crack on ..what’s done is done UTP
@ScottShearer15: Very disappointed that Dave has decided to leave, he’s done an amazing job getting us back into the league. Good Luck to him managing a team he played for and closer to his family. Thanks for the memories
@Alky007: Disgusting from him. Delighted to see that you didn’t put the token “we wish him well” in this statement. Can only be leaving for one reason and we all know what that is. Good luck for the rest of the season (apart from when you play us in The FA Cup)
@Ryannx97: Thought he was a man of integrity. Evidently not. Slandered Oates and did the same thing…
@torky2: I’m pleased he appears to be joining, he has done a great job at Hartlepool and County need someone who has been there and done it. I’ve no hard feelings to any Hartlepool fans (apart from Jeff) and wish you all the best for the rest of season I hear £125k compo been sorted?
@MarkReeve85: Dave Challinor will always be a hero for getting us out of the National League. Gutted he’s leaving but wish him nothing but the best, just never against us. To the people abusing his wife and kids, or calling him every name under the sun, grow up and stop embarrassing yourselves
@keith34341706: Makes his comments when Rhys Oates left a proper “kettle black” scenario.
@TrevKay904: His loss…. no guarantee of promotion at Stockport & they’ve a habit of failing when the run in heats up. My money would be on DC being out of work by the summer if he fails to get Stockport out of the NL.
@Hooksy_1: Fans will always come second, sorry, third behind money and family… and who can blame him? He’ll be on a bigger wedge with promise of big money to spend and closer to his fam. He’s worked wonders with a cheap squad, but it won’t stop us feeling a little bitter about it! #nsd
@RokerPark150705: You’ve done a great job at ‘Pools, DC, but having inexplicably turned your back on the club so soon after its long-awaited regaining of its #EFL status – and after showing apparent ‘commitment’ by signing a new long-term contract – I do NOT wish you well in your new job… #Snake
@_DavidGill: This sums up the state of football. Cried on about dreaming of managing in the EFL and then fucks off for the cash when he has his team flying in league 2.
@ryandickens_: Hell of an appointment for Stockport, they’ll fly up the league now. I still have them down as favourites.
@ST_1982: When a big club comes knocking it’s hard to say no.
@Jamiedecfc: Find this strange I must say hartlepool are seemingly going places with good support but Stockport are the bigger club and probably financially better off so I can see why but with hartlepool in the efl it’s just strange
@Calvey94: The way the National League is going and the money being thrown around it almost feels like if it continues then promotion to league 2 will be a step down as all of the best players and managers will be in the National League
@kate_hufc: The fella had the entire town eating out of the palm of his hands, fans would walk through fire for him and this is how we’ve been repaid. Honestly, I’ve got no words. Now let’s turn up and get behind the lads and Sweens.
@Fletcherhufc: Heart broken. Gutted. Sick. Won’t be coming on here slating him though, worked absolute miracles for us. People need to take a second and be realistic. Money talks unfortunately, that’s life and that’s football. No one man bigger than the badge on the chest. We go again!
@MattyGrocott_: Tremendous shame and massively disappointed, especially in the manner that it’s been conducted. However everyone moves on in football eventually. I’m sure a lot of fans appreciate how hard he’s worked and the great memories he’s given us in a short time. Cheers, thank you.
@BRI_BLS: The bloke has went from hero to zero. Thanks for getting us back were we belong, but you fucked the job with us fans, doing it like this. I’ll guarantee you’ll never get the admiration you had here anywhere else.. now fuckoff.
@carty_pools: The fans have absolutely worshipped Dave and he didnt even have the decency to come out and address us before leaving, that really is a sucker punch, something we won’t forget.
@douggyhufc: Forever grateful for all he did however the way he left has left a “sour taste”!
@poolie87: Everyone will be forever grateful for what he did for pools…but he’s done exactly the same as Rhys Oates after he slated him for it. People are upset about the way he’s gone about it and thats what is hard to swallow. Sorry but seems money does talk.
@ThomasS06759892: You have lost all my respect, once an idol to many and myself it’s a huge shock to see you leave for money after signing a contract, leaving a club that has fans that would walk on broken glass for you and bringing huge numbers home and away and this is how we’re treat.
@MathewForth: In a way I can’t blame him as he’s probably getting more money but it doesn’t sit right that a manager leaves a league club for a non league club. Shame as it seemed he was building something…
@MickyWelsh1: Fucking sickener that mind. Literally signed a 3 year contract a month ago. Shite crack.
@durhamchris1983: Absolute snake. Slates Oates in public then does the same. Cheerio
@2jonkershaw: Dave Challinor is an absolute wrong un. He’s already stored up more than a lifetime’s worth of bad karma.
@BenPatterson1: What a crock of shit.
@TomHarrison92: Turn up Tuesday, Saturday and give Sweeney and the lads all the support we have
@Mustardinho: Fucking hell brutal that
@JTW_1908: HUGE MISTAKE. Makes me sick that he wanted away so much.
@BrettAngellsle1: Hang on…. @JeffStelling thought it was his dream to manage Hartlepool….sorry.. actually not sorry….ahhhhhh cheers thankyouuuuuu #stockportcounty
@NRayner7: Frustrating news especially considering everyone knows the money Stockport are currently throwing about. Did very well at Pools and probably could of got a job higher up the EFL if his work continued.
@HornseyCameron: Now I’ve calmed down a bit, I’d personally like to let Dave challinor he can suck my hairy gooch the money grabbing biff

90 games for Dave Challinor at #Pools.
41 wins, 24 draws, 25 losses.
Highest win percentage in league games of any post-war #HUFC manager.
A huge loss but we move on. https://t.co/DIjp2zlyeI

Gutted doesn’t cut it💔 For me Dave and his family leave Pools as legends. Gave us one of the best weekends of our lives in Bristol and some of the best football ever seen at Pools. It’s a shame these things have to end but we’ll keep going and get behind whoever comes in next. https://t.co/mUahNPMLxV

Baffling, leaving a club where the fans would literally walk bare foot on broken glass for him, to drop back to non league where he’ll probably be out of a job in 6 months. Publicly rinsed Rhys Oates and he’s done the exact same. The grass isn’t always greener https://t.co/Z1IrFWjobw pic.twitter.com/xLoGcGKQmn
