Stockport fan tries to rattle James Maddison before he misses penalty then Leicester win

A Stockport fan tries to rattle James Maddison before he misses his penalty then Leicester win the shootout anyway on Tuesday night.

A video was uploaded to TikTok following the Carabao Cup second round tie, and very quickly went viral.

Foxes goalkeeper Daniel Iversen saved three penalties on his debut for the Premier League club to earn the Foxes a shootout win against the League Two side.

Iversen was the hero as Leicester prevailed 3-1 in a chaotic shootout, in which James Maddison and Ayoze Perez missed for the top flight outfit.

The keeper also crucially denied Callum Camps in normal time, which ended 0-0, and despite victory, Leicester are still yet to win in 90 minutes this season.

In light of Leicester struggling this season, a fan behind the dugout at Edgeley Park is heard mocking them and claimed the manager Brendan Rodgers would be sacked in the morning.

The fan said: “Maddison, you’re shit yous mate, sorry I have to tell you, sorry to tell you but you are shit.

By this point, James Maddison says something back, with is inaudible unfortunately, but the fan replies back: “Last week mate, your manager’s getting sacked in the morning, ahaha, how does it feel to be in the relegation zone of the Premier League yeah? And your manager’s getting sacked in the morning? Manager’s getting sacked in the morning yeah?! He’s shitting himself ain’t he. Aaaaaah.”

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers told BBC Radio Leicester:

“We didn’t play quick enough and obviously in the final third of the pitch it was a little slow.

“We didn’t speed up in that area of the field until we brought on James Maddison and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and that last 15-20 minutes there was a lot more aggression in our game.

“We didn’t create too much and the individual quality in the final third wasn’t quite there.

[On Daniel Iversen] “The things he had to do he did well – I’ve been really impressed with Daniel – his focus, concentration and he’s really matured as a goalkeeper now.”

Brendan Rodgers says Wesley Fofana was left out of Leicester’s squad for their Carabao Cup win over Stockport County because he did not turn up for first-team training last week.

After being dropped for Saturday’s defeat by Southampton, the defender was once again absent as the Foxes beat the League Two side on penalties.

Before the game at Edgeley Park, the Foxes turned down a third bid from Chelsea for the Frenchman, believed to be between £60m and £70m.

Rodgers said: “He’s training with the under-23s so he can get his football fitness and keep working. It’s so important at this stage to control any sort of distractions that may be there.

“He’s a good kid, it’s just been a really challenging situation for him. I’ve had it a number of times in my career where there’s players who can deal with it, cope with it, get on, want to help their team-mates. There’s others that just can’t deal with with the distraction.

“Of course that distracts them and it’s not quite right, and they miss a training session, then you need the full commitment from your players.

“These guys get well paid. The very least you can do is turn up. And if you don’t, with all due respect, you can’t then just think you can walk into our group.

“But like I say, within day to day, he’s a good kid – it’s just been hard for him to deal with everything, and whilst he’s in that frame of mind, it’s been difficult for him to play.”

Hatters boss Dave Challinor said: “A brilliant night without the dream ending if you like, but really proud of the effort we’ve put in.

“Taking a Premier League team to penalties is a great achievement, just a pity we couldn’t go and make it an amazing night rather than a really good one.”
