Stevenage fans were slammed for treatment towards hospitalised Wycombe players with huge stoppage time played in the League One fixture.
Jamie Reid grabbed the only goal of the game as Boro came away with a 1-0 win at Adams Park, but it was overshadowed by serious injuries to Chairboys forward Brandon Hanlan and defensive midfielder Luke Leahy.
This led to around 30 minutes of stoppage time being added over the course of the match, which didn’t finish until 5:41pm.
First, Hanlan was grappled to the ground by Stevenage captain Carl Piregianni, sustaining a horrific shoulder injury just before half time and being stretchered off after he landed heavily following an aerial battle with Piergianni. A free kick was given to Stevenage, as Hanlan required oxygen with Piergianni, who escaping a booking.
Foul given against Wycombe.

It’s good to see many fans slamming a section of the Stevenage supporters for their behaviour at Adams Park today.#Chairboys #Boro 👇https://t.co/dIJQKCWOXZ

On the 45th minute, Wycombe come close to opening the scoring as a headed effort crashes against the crossbar.
There were 14 minutes of additional time in the first half, and right at the end of that, Kane Hemmings touched the ball down beautifully before sending a low cross to Jamie Reid who fired home to give Boro the lead.
On the 86th minute, there was another long stoppage in play as a second stretcher was brought onto the field for Wycombe player Leahy, receiving medical assistance before going off.
Stevenage saw out the remainder of the game to stay in the playoff places as Wycombe dropped to 12th.
8⃣1⃣ – This is now getting serious.
Leahy took a whack in the head when a Stevenage cross came in, and he was lying face down in the turf for a good few seconds.
Players realised the severity of the issue and the medics are on the pitch.

The thing that concerned me the most was how Leahy was face-down in the turf for nearly 10 seconds before the ref noticed.
These seconds are vital.
Stevenage fans can be heard saying ‘hurry up’.#Chairboys

There’s going to be another lengthy stoppage as Leahy is still receiving treatment.
Must say, a section of the Stevebagfe fans behind the Wycombe goal where Leahy is receiving treatment have acted appallingly.
A serious medical situation and there’s no empathy.#Chairboys

FT: Wycombe Wanderers 0-1 Stevenage.
Forget the game, forget the result, we wish both @B_Hanlan and @lukeleahy a speedy recovery.
Stevenage’s fans should be ashamed of the way they behaved when Leahy was being treated.
Disgusting.

Steve Evans: “We were told that Wycombe wanted the game to be abandoned.
“It’s 1-0 with eight minutes to go and they want the game stopped.
“We’d been calling off games every Saturday if players went down with a head knock.”#Chairboys https://t.co/hlLlq8UM3h

Both Brandon Hanlan and Luke Leahy have been discharged from hospital and are resting at home.
The club treats head injuries in particular with the utmost caution and we thank those who handled the situation with dignity and respect, and those who have sent well wishes. pic.twitter.com/ZgpHgTGWbo

Matt Bloomfield said: “Both boys are in hospital. Brands has a knee injury, Lukey was responsive by the time he reached the ambulance but there was a really worrying time on the pitch. It was tough for our players to deal with.
“I’ve heard we were accused of trying to get the game called off. That’s not the case. I’m disgusted by what I’ve witnessed this afternoon.”
As mentioned, Stevenage fans were slammed for the treatment towards hospitalised Wycombe players…

@benstenner2: Result irrelevant after that one…even now after two very serious injuries the stevenage fans think its funny to goad and gloat.. its a disgrace.. they did nothing today but to try and injure our players and the referee allowed it to happen 0 control from minute 1 to 130
