Stamford sign up former Leicester, Hibernian and Man Utd goalkeepers

Stamford, a club with some big ambitions, have chosen to sign up former Man Utd and Leicester goalkeepers as part of their squad.

The Lincolnshire based Northern Premier League Division One South East outfit, revealed the signing of the 34-year-old Conrad Logan via their Twitter page after he departed another non league side in Anstey Nomads from the United Counties League Premier Division.

He played for Republic of Ireland at youth international levels from under-14 to under-19 as well as climbed up through Leicester’s youth teams before spending a total of 10 years at the King Power Stadium before leaving the club back in 2015.

Logan tend to have been used as second or third choice goalkeeper during his time at the club and also had a number of loan spells over the 10 years.

During his time at Stockport County, Logan helped guide his side to the 2008 League Two playoff final, something they ended up winning 3-2 against Rochdale at Wembley.

He also spent time on loan with the likes of Boston United, Luton Town, Bristol Rovers, Rotherham United and Rochdale.

When he was released by Leicester in 2015, he was the longest-serving player in Leicester’s squad.

He then subsequently signed for Scottish outfit Hibernian, helping the club to lift the Scottish Cup at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

In his first senior game for sixteen months, he was named man of the match in Hibs’s Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Dundee United. Logan made a numbers of impressive saves during the match, which finished goalless, then added to that with two saves in the penalty shootout.

Despite his stunning performance, manager Alan Stubbs instead opted for goalkeeper Mark Oxley to the starting lineup for the following match.

Logan managed to re-claim his place in the starting lineup before the promotion playoffs, in which Hibernian lost 5-4 on aggregate against Falkirk. He then started the 2016 Scottish Cup Final, which Hibs won 3–2 against Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.

After that, Logan then signed for Rochdale (2016), Mansfield Town (2017). and then Forest Green Rovers as recent as January 2020.

In November 2020, Logan turned down offers to return to the Football League and then decided to drop down the leagues in favour of non league football.

Anstey Nomads came calling, and that’s where he was not just a player but also as a coach with the club’s junior team.

He soon departed them for an ambitious non league club in Stamford, and will be available to take on Hereford in the FA Trophy at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Stamford have also signed a former Manchester United keeper after he was playing in the Championship last season.

They were thrilled to announce the signing of experienced goalkeeper Luke Steele.

He is based locally and more recently been playing outfield for Peterborough Northern Star Reserves to keep fitness up.

Steele has made over 200 appearances in the Championship in his career, as well as memorably helping Barnsley reach the FA Cup semi-final during the 2007/08 campaign, with wins over Liverpool and Chelsea along the way.
