Southend United have this evening confirmed that Kevin Bond has resigned from role as the club’s first team manager.
It comes after a run of six defeats at the start of the season leaving them 22nd in the League One table with a -13 goal difference – ahead only of Bolton, who started the campaign with a 12-point deduction.

THE CLUB STATEMENT:
“The club’s Chairman, Ron Martin, upon returning from holiday last night, held a pre-arranged meeting with the club’s Manager Kevin Bond this morning.
“The discussions were conducted in a constructive manner and with the best interests of the club in sharp focus. At the conclusion of the meeting, Kevin Bond tendered his resignation and which was accepted, with immediate effect, by the Chairman.
“Ron Martin said: “Kevin is a sincere professional coach with huge experience in the industry. His accomplishments in keeping the club in League One last season needs to be acknowledged and will long be remembered by the club’s supporters.
“Unfortunately the euphoria experience at the end of last season has not translated to the pitch so far this season. However, I remain confident that the players we have at Southend United, including the strong signings made by Kevin Bond, will enable a successful season under the guidance of a new Manager. The search for that individual commences today.”
