Southend United fans are buzzing after hearing about the club’s potential plans with American actor Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson.

Yes, you read that right, first it was reported that Ray Winstone could be part of a group planning to take over the Shrimpers.

But days later, Chris Phillips of Echo News is reporting that he could be brought in to help them in quite a significant way.

What is being reported so far? A sale of the National League side could be about to happen with both The Athletic and Southend Echo saying the club are on the verge of being taken over by a group of local business people

Talks have reached an advanced stage as the group bids to buy Southend, and the deal could see actor Ray Winstone join the club’s board.

The potential new ownership group is led by Kristofer Tremaine and Simon Jackson, who run a London-based hedge fund named Kimura Capital.

They have moved into sports, esports, media and marketing in the past decade by setting up Kimura Performance and a motorsport division called Kimura Racing.

In 2022, Tremaine became a board member of the sports management agency Winstone co-founded. According to reports, Laurie Pinto is advising the group.

And while Winstone is a known fan of West Ham, his involvement with Southend would certainly raise its profile and give them quite the much needed boost they need right now.

If that’s not enough to excite those associated with the club, Chris Phillips from Echo News revealed Dwayne Johnson, who was also the highest-grossing male actor in the world back in 2020 and an ex-WWE wrestler, could be a part of Southend United in the future – if the current offer to purchase Blues is accepted.

The Rock’s involvement could dramatically raise worldwide interest in the club as he currently has nearly 400million followers on Instagram and 17million on Twitter.

According to the report, the Kimura Group is interested in producing a Welcome to Wrexham style documentary.

If the takeover is confirmed, the group has reportedly made contact with The Rock’s production company Seven Bucks Productions.

The club gave an update on all the talk emerging, simply tweeting on Friday afternoon: “Following recent speculation surrounding the sale of the Club, we can confirm that Non Disclosure Agreements with three interested parties and Heads of Terms have been issued.

“However, at this time, none of the interested parties have been granted a period of exclusivity.”
