Southampton fans cheekily mock Nathan Jones in their side’s 5-1 win at Charlton with FOUR of those goals scored in EIGHT minutes.
The goal spree didn’t start until the 14th minute, the Saints’ Ryan Manning breaking the deadlock with a powerful header from a brilliantly placed cross from Tom Fellows.
Southampton were 2-0 up two minutes later, the impressive Brazilian forward Leo Scienza making his way down the middle, linked up with Armstrong, and scored with his second attempt after having his first blocked.
On 20 minutes, Caspar Jander made it 3-0, Armstrong teeing up Caspar Jander with a lovely through ball, and the German made no mistake in finding the net.
22 minutes and it was 4-0, Armstrong with the assist for Finn Azaz, who made his way past the Addicks goalkeeper to slot home and leave the fans inside The Valley stunned.
Southampton fans wasted no time in mocking former boss Nathan Jones by singing “Nathan, what’s the score?!”, “Nathan Jones, you’re football is s***” and “cheer up Nathan Jones”.
Finn Azaz soon made it 5-0, making his way past Charlton defenders and squeezed the ball in on 43 minutes, with Charlton then getting a goal back on the verge of half time. Lloyd Jones with a header from a Sonny Carey delivery.

Charlton manager Nathan Jones told BBC Radio London:
“Give credit to them, for 20 minutes they were as good a side as we have seen at this level [but] could we have been a bit more aggressive? We did not do the things we normally do and that is basically what has cost us.
“We do not defend the box well enough for the first goal, we allow certain things to happen for the second which kind of kills it, and then they go up and level and make it three and four very quickly.
“We showed a lot of character in the second half, we tweaked it defensively – we were probably a little more reserved than we normally are. Credit to Southampton they were much better than us but that is a learning curve for us.
“We are stretched. We have four fit defenders and one could not play today because it is against his club; wingers in wing-back positions, so it’s tough.
“We did not quite get things right, we gave them too much respect.
“We were deep and weren’t aggressive in winning that first ball that we normally do and then they had runners and quality and real technique to go and hurt us and we looked open, which is not something we normally do.”

Interim Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert told BBC Radio Solent:
“We knew that they would be coming for us and that obviously gives you space further up the pitch and I think we used them quite well.
“We are very very happy to have Adam [Armstrong] as a character, as a player on the team – with the quality he brings, it’s very nice to have him up there and he recognises moments like nobody else.
“Those teams are tough to play against, when you know they are coming for you. You will have a little bit more space between the lines and if you get that one pass right, there is a whole pitch to open up.
“We worked on this [over] the last [few] days and it came off.
“After the break, you just have a couple more days to prepare and we did that well.”
As mentioned, Southampton fans mock Nathan Jones in a stunning 5-1 win at Charlton with FOUR goals in EIGHT minutes…
@thereeljd: Southampton fans more interested in singing bout Nathan Jones than their own team, obsessed. #cafc
@_ScottWinter_: If we play like this against Leicester and Millwall and come away with 3 points in each, I’ll be fully behind Tonda. Has to hit a high standard because he has no track record but this is the best we’ve played since… Ralphball in Covid? #SaintsFC
@IamBalhamMatt: #saintsfc Tonda’s got the right idea. Let the players manage themselves, relax, and play their football. Take a back seat and operate as a psychologist and mental game coach in the background keeping them hungry and driven. Do not try and boss them, assert your authority or imply that you know more about football than players your same age.
@Sam__SFC: Possibly Nathan Jones’ best contribution to Southampton football club this
@shaj59: Another win SAINTS! What a 1st half what team play and such terrific goals! Im glad we won but mostly I happy that we smashed Nathan Jones! Like a lot of fans I was nervous in the 2nd half especially when we went back to, the old SAINTS! WE ARE SO MUCH BETTER GOING FORWARD!!
@TGOCW_: Cheer up Nathan jones is catchy, absolute shambles today. That was a long time coming, as I’ve been saying for ages #cafc
@WadeJake42398: We’ve just beaten the best manager in Europe away from home. Possibly one of the biggest wins in our history? #saintsfc
@SamDobson1:
Tonda ball sparkling ✅
8 points off automatics ✅
Most of the ‘top’ teams apart from Cov looking decidingly average ✅
HMS Piss the League is about to set sail once again #Saintsfc
@Madden1976: That’s unbelievable. Mainly for the fact that unbearable c*nt Nathan Jones would’ve been on the pitch in tears had Charlton beat us today. Get that up ya 😂 #SaintsFc
@cafc_luke_: Left after 4, that was by far the most embarrassing game of football I’ve seen us play in a very long time, not a single player up for that today. Shocking. #cafc
@DiscoEnergy: I couldn’t ask for anymore from us so far this season. This is a massive kick in the teeth today but we’ve had terrible performances under Curbishley. Hope this is a one off! #cafc
@fredbarney2014: Big wake up call for jones today. Injuries haven’t helped selection. A long winter awaits us with a team a few players should be no where near championship #cafc
@LewisCatt9: Where do you begin with that. Utterly shambolic and totally out of character. Tough week now to turn it round. #cafc
@millieedmund17: Didn’t even look bothered or at least tried to get a way back into the game. The start of a tough week… #cafc
