CLUB STATEMENT:
Solihull Moors are delighted to announce the signing of Republic of Ireland midfielder Stephen Gleeson on a one-year contract.
The 32-year-old has four years of Championship experience under his belt having made well over 100 appearances for Birmingham City and Ipswich Town.
His most recent football came north of the border with Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen, where the midfielder made 10 starts between 2018-2020.
Capped four times by his country, Gleeson was given his league debut by Mick McCarthy at Wolves in the 2006/07 season after progressing through the academy.
But it was at MK Dons where Gleeson really started to excel, clocking up more than 200 appearances over the course of five years.
In his time with Birmingham, Gleeson played 125 times and scored six goals as he became a key player under Gary Rowett.
His next challenge comes at the Moors and Gleeson said: “It’s exciting, I’m excited to get going and get back into football. It’s close to my home, the manager, Bealey, the project, everything just fitted what I wanted at this stage in my career.
“I’m just ready to get going and start enjoying my football again – I think this could be the right club for me.
“I’m happy to get it done. I haven’t played since December last year so I’m looking forward to the six weeks of pre-season leading into the games and hopefully getting that rust off.
“I think I have experience throughout my career playing at a decent level, so anything I can bring to the manager that he needs, I want to bring.”
Manager Jimmy Shan added: “This is an outstanding addition to the squad. We have signed a player with Championship pedigree and a wealth of experience.
“Stephen is a player that fits the Moors way, he will help the team gain control in games and has an outstanding ability to unlock with clever and creative passes.”

As mentioned, Solihull Moors stun fans with their latest player signing…
I do agree, but by the end of his Blues career he was really, really poor. He’d started genuinely hiding from the ball, and without his ball playing ability, he had no presence on the pitch at all. Hopefully he’s regained his confidence since then, he can be a very tidy player
