Solihull Moors sack ex-Prem and EFL player turned manager Matt Taylor after a shocking start to the 2025/26 season.
A 1-0 defeat to Yeovil leaves Solihull sitting bottom of the National League, winless after seven games played, picking up 3 draws and 4 defeats.
Former footballer James Quinn, the assistant manager, will take charge for the upcoming game against 17th place Boston United.
Solihull Moors can confirm that Matt Taylor has left the club with immediate effect.
We would like to place on record our thanks to Matt for his commitment to the club and we wish him every success in his future endeavours.

Our loss is their gain. The popular and supremely talented first team coach leaves us to rejoin Moors.
Quinny leaves with our blessings and we thank him for his time with us.
He’ll be sorely missed by the lads. ⛪️ https://t.co/wXOFROUIvU pic.twitter.com/f5WQjQlfDs— Alvechurch FC (@Alvechurch1st) September 3, 2025

Sat 16 Aug – Sutton United 0-0 Solihull – attendance 1,939
Tue 19 Aug – Carlisle United 1-1 Solihull – attendance 6,714
Sat 23 Aug – Solihull 1-5 Aldershot Town – attendance 937
Mon 25 Aug – Altrincham 2-0 Solihull – attendance 1,602
Sat 30 Aug – Solihull 1-2 Southend United – attendance 1,566
Tue 2 Sep – Solihull 0-1 Yeovil Town – attendance 917
After defeat to Southend, he said: “Our own worst enemy today. I think obviously you’re emotional after a game, especially I am as everybody is, but if you remove the emotion from it, two errors that we’ve made, we turn the ball over, get hit on a counter attack.
“And then I thought the second half performance was actually quite good. We got some momentum, we gained some territory, we had some moments. Dan scored a great goal. And I felt we were in the ascendancy in the second half. If anyone was going to go on and get a winning goal, I thought it be us. That’s how it felt.
“But we switch off and we make an error and ultimately it costs us getting anything out of game.
“A point, due to our second half performance, I’ve probably been not disappointed with it, I’ve accepted, but I felt the team who were getting stronger and most definitely had more opportunities.
“But think the difference between probably the teams a little bit today is they made fewer errors than we did defensively and ultimately that’s why I’m stood here again talking to you after a loss.
“The issue is I think there’s consistency and what we want is we want more consistency out of the group.
“Spoke to them there and at the moment it seems that a 25-30 minute period against Aldershot is defining our season.
“The players need to play with more confidence, more belief because we all know the ability that they have and we all know how good they can be. But it is difficult. They have to be strong in their mindset and understand that trust is key in terms of trusting your teammates.
“We just probably were a bit sloppy on the ball at times, more so in the first half and the second. I actually thought in second half we moved it really well, had some very good patterns and they created moments but ultimately I’m steadier again and we’ve not got any points.
“The next game is always going to be the most important one. That’s obviously Yeovil here on Tuesday. We’ve got to start the game with a real verve and energy and desire.
“And I think what it is, it’s me picking the team that can go and do that. That’s probably one of the most important things.
“But none of our players today have gone out trying to make a mistake. They’re all human, they have made errors and ultimately they’ve cost us today.
But, need to digest this one move on rather quickly to Tuesday night.”
Tuesday was a 1-0 defeat to Yeovil, no post match interview was uploaded onto social media, and Taylor’s tenure came to an end.
He was appointed in January 2025, but leaves with a win % of just 14.81 after 27 games. 4 wins, 8 draws and 15 defeats.

Twitter users reacted as Solihull Moors sack ex-Prem and EFL player turned manager Matt Taylor after a shocking start to the season…
@TeeGee60518810: bring hinshelwood in
@JoshuaK44640227: Hinshelwood in
@MoorsManPL: TAKE. YOUR. TIME. I beg you, there is no place for more weird choices. If we need to go 3-4 games with James, so be it, we will get behind him, we know the situation he’s been thrown into. What we can’t have is a rushed choice who will drag us down to National League North
@louisec_345: Why did you have him in the first place terrible at Walsall & Shrewsbury
@licklemouse: Worst manger I’ve seen down there in ages lost the team and the fans never felt so much negativity down there for a long time
@MarkChat64: Quinny should never have been allowed to leave. Lessons learned hopefully.
@HeatherMartinD2: Will sleep better tonight now. Welcome back Quinny 💛💙
@72jamesk: Let’s move on it was a strange decision to appoint Taylor he had no pedigree that made him a stand out choice. Hopefully we get someone who understands the league we’re in or an up and coming manager like Whingy who knows potential players a level below who can step up..!
@OffTheLineBlog: Not surprising. Underwhelmed as a manager with #Saddlers, #Salop, #Wealdstone and #SMFC. Second-half improvement only in wake of Gill’s appointment during 2024-25. <26% win rate. Big appointment needed for Moors to turn their fortunes around. Mark Cooper the likely pick?
@craigramone: Shouldn’t have got rid of him in the first place. Take your time. Make the right decision. Fans are behind Quinny
@Scout_Theory: Change needed, no identity, core of players gone, Moors need to go back to local recruitment & a manager who knows the area. Crowds dwindling, sad to see after the relative success they have had. Darryl Eales isn’t an idiot, tough call to make so early but one that needs making. Had to happen, important appointment now, place needs an injection of energy, IMO, local knowledge, and make the Moors the destination for the best non-league talent in the area. Tamworth have taken the crown but its not too far gone.
@CraftyCarper85: He should never of been allowed to return for the new season. I hope Darryl considers Adam Hinshelwood. With him being available it would be a great opportunity for the Moors (and himself) to start afresh and play some sensical football! For now, welcome back Quinny 🟡🔵
@MichaelCaponee: If I was Solihull I would go all out for Hinshelwood or Derek adams #COYM
@PLJ1985: That’s his managerial career over.. on the bright side he might get into the Ryder Cup team
