Sky Sports issue apology to viewers after Serge Aurier’s goal against Sheffield United

Sky Sports have decided to issue an apology to viewers after Serge Aurier’s goal against Sheffield United coming on Sunday afternoon.

Tottenham fans were left them frustrated at the broadcaster after a sound issue caused them to hear Serge Aurier give their side the lead against Chris Wilder’s side before a ball was kicked.

The issue meant the audio was well and truly ahead of the video footage, and that wasn’t the first time it happened throughout the game.

Firstly, Harry Kane played the superb ball into the direction of Steven Bergwijn who had a shot from the edge of the area in the opening minutes of the clash.

Bergwijn then smashed the ball towards goal, forcing Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to produce probably the only save you could call good in the 3-1 defeat.

Yet again an audio issue meant that fans knew the save had been made before Bergwijn even took the shot, now wouldn’t that proper get on your nerves?

It happened again, this time from a resulting corner kick, Serge Aurier lifted high to head in from Son Heung-Min’s cross.

Yet, viewers could hear the two commentators revealing that their had been goal before the cross came in.

Moments later, Sky Sports issued an apology, with Bill Leslie, the man commentating on the game, reading out the statement.

“If you’re having problems with the sound we apologise,” he said on the Premier League coverage. “We are having some audio problems we are working to fix. Hopefully we’ll have those right sooner rather than later.”

What the managers said after the game

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder: “The timing and manner of the goals really all afternoon hurt us. I really fancied us, and we did as a football club.

“We got paid a compliment with the way they set up and you could see, led by the manager, that they thought this was going to be a tough afternoon. But apart from the last 10 minutes, it wasn’t a foregone conclusion.

“The goals really, at any level… after Tuesday night, the first thing we needed was to have a bright start and get a foothold in the game and we didn’t.

“You could see the attitude of their players when they got the first goal. It gave them a huge boost and it deflated us.”

Tottenham’s Jose Mourinho: “The game went well because of the mentality, not the set up. We were very aggressive, tried to be dominant and we managed to be that.

“I thought 2-0 at half-time was a bit short, normally it should be game over, but it wasn’t. A very basic thing, from a throw-in, made it 2-1, but this time we had the personality and desire to go for it and I am happy.

“The desire is to be strong enough to impose yourself on the opponent and not let them get back in the game, and we managed to do that because we were always dominant.”
