There has been some significant news for Stockport County as David Moyes gives an update ahead of the two side’s FA Cup tie on Monday.
The Hatters, who sit 4th in the National League standings, are hoping to cause an upset against West Ham who are in 10th place of the Premier League table.
There have been a few shocks in the Third Round which was played over the weekend, Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers lost to league below Doncaster Rovers who came away with 1-0 win.
A tie that went into extra time was Blackpool of League One against Premier League strugglers West Brom with the scoreline at 2-2 come the end of 120 minutes.
The shootout then saw Blackpool win 3-2 and put more pressure on the Baggies’ newest manager Sam Allardyce.
The third upset came at the John Smith’s Stadium where Huddersfield, who at one point lead 2-1, ended up throwing it away, losing 3-2 to league below Plymouth Argyle.
Then on Sunday, Crawley Town of League Two left the nation stunned with a 3-0 victory against Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United.
Now Stockport are hoping to do the same and they’ve received significant news for David Moyes gives an update ahead of the FA Cup tie.
The message from the Hammers boss was clear, saying that they will be without some of their best players.
Ryan Fredericks returns after a period of isolation following a positive test for the virus, however they now have ‘one or two’ others missing despite not having tested positive themselves.
Moyes wouldn’t name those who will miss the trip to Edgeley Park and seemed confident it wouldn’t have a big impact on his plans.
“We’ve had no positive tests but we have got one or two players who are having to isolate because they’ve been in contact with people, which is happening quite often,” said Moyes, who was expected to name a strong side.
“The situation at the moment, there are so many people catching it, there are a lot of people having to isolate because of that. We’ve got one or two in that situation as well.
“I don’t think it presents a big problem, I won’t give names out because ethically I think that’s the right thing to do. We’re not hiding anything and it won’t become any big shock Just like every club in the country there’s probably some people having to isolate at the moment. No positive tests except for Ryan Fredericks who is allowed to return Sunday or Monday.”
Since West Ham’s last match at Everton, they have offloaded Robert Snodgrass and Sebastien Haller, to West Brom and Ajax.
Stockport manager Jim Gannon said: “All I want from my players is to play the game and enjoy the occasion.”
Gannon, who played for Stockport when they beat West Ham in the League Cup in 1996, added: “They’ll be worried about West Ham, naturally, but if they play the game as well as they can, they’ll enjoy it a lot more.
“I enjoyed some great experiences playing against Premiership sides – now, it’s the turn of my players.”
Fans reacted as significant news is revealed for Stockport as David Moyes gives an update ahead of the FA Cup tie. See what they had to say below…
@FPLFella: I wouldn’t be shocked if Sullivan has told Moyes to bin off the FA cup completely. I’d back Stockport to beat us at 8/1 stick it in your ACCA anyway as it’s Monday. So could still cash out.
@oliemichablabla: loosely translated into, we’ll probably go 1-0 down and then he won’t make subs until the 88th minute.
@GVOMIKEZ: If we lose to Stockport I’m Moyes out idc how we are doing in the league
@MarkkkkWilliams: I would lump it all on Stockport tonight, think Moyes is going to give a lot of players a rest and think he’d be daft to play Antonio.
@WestHamJoshV: Hoping Moyes or the players don’t view Stockport as an easy fixture tomorrow evening; would love the club to have a meaningful cup run. Hopefully see a mixture of youth and experience. New signings need to be announced sooner rather than later, however.
@Denny_Denovan: oi oi morning Hammerheads ⚒ it’s groundhog day Pt.1 the when you wake up dreading the thought of Moyes playing a reserve side and then getting beat by a lower ranked team in 3rd rd of the FA Cup. Pt.2 tomorrow.
@PaulMcG68632275: Come on stockport
@Marshal_P_Knutt: @CursedFootball the whole of the West Ham fan base know what happens next…
