Sheffield Wednesday fans vent anger and demand change after heated forum with owner

Sheffield Wednesday fans vent anger and demand change after heated forum with owner Dejphon Chansiri who made several contentious remarks.

This has deepened the rift, with Chansiri indicating he would not invest further in the second tier club due to perceived unfair treatment by fans, and while he expressed openness to selling, he controversially suggested that fans should find a buyer.

His comments on the transfer situation with manager Danny Röhl were less clear, hinting at a lack of transfer targets being presented, though this aspect remains somewhat ambiguous.

Additionally, the recall of Shea Charles from his loan by Southampton was also confirmed very late on, stirring concerns among fans about the team’s future performance.

This forum has not only highlighted a significant disconnect between Chansiri and the fanbase but also between the club’s management, leading to increased protests against his ownership.

Rob Staton (Senior Sports Journalist BBC Sheffield) reports on the key moments of the fans forum…

– Dejphon Chansiri claims manager Danny Röhl and/or the recruitment team have not presented him with a list of January transfer targets. “If nothing comes to me, what do you want me to do?” #SWFC

– The fan who asked the question challenged Dejphon Chansiri to get a meeting booked with Danny Röhl tomorrow to discuss transfers #SWFC

– Heated exchange between Rob Oldfield of the 1867 Group and Dejphon Chansiri. Oldfield challenged Chansiri to find a buyer. Chairman says it isn’t his job to find a buyer. #SWFC

– A fan just asked about Danny Röhl’s comments on @BBCSheffield recently saying fans can ask about the transfer window at the forum. Chansiri: “I want to say he’s very brave to say that.”

– Season ticket holder speaks of optimism being dampened by “own goals” on recent transfer embargo & adjustments to season ticket prices for concessions. Some applause. Supporter: “What we need is to build on the positivity. We really can’t afford to have these own goals”

– Since the restart questions about season ticket prices. Alistair Wilson, General Manager, noted a rise in attendance over the last decade and explained decision around prices for next season. Chansiri also said again he hasn’t received a transfer targets list for January.

– Dejphon Chansiri is asked by a supporter if Southampton contacted Sheffield Wednesday about Danny Röhl. “We mentioned (there is) something at the beginning we can’t go into detail. I can confirm there was contact from Southampton.”

– Panel at the Sheffield Wednesday fans forum say the club is considering installing safe standing at Hillsborough

– Dejphon Chansiri, when asked again about lack of transfer talks with Danny Röhl with signings needed: “I prepare something behind the scenes so that we will be fine.”

– Fan: “Is Danny OK with that?”

– Chansiri: “I don’t know. He needs to speak to me, not me speak to him.”

– DC: “If he’s not talking to me what can I say? If he need anything he needs to come to me and tell me. It’s not up to me to say ‘please, please, do something’… I look forward to talking to him if he wants to talk to me. Actually, I’m the boss. My employee needs to talk to me.”

– Dejphon Chansiri has answered a number of questions so far. GM Alistair Wilson answered effectively on some topics. Main takeaway is Chansiri stating he & Danny Röhl have not talked about transfers. The window’s been open two weeks

– Dejphon Chansiri says he last spoke to Danny Röhl in December

– Two fans praise Danny Röhl (one calling him ‘the saviour’). Another suggested it sounded like he was under-appreciated by the Chairman. Chansiri: “I know you are all happy with him, I was the one that brought him here.”

– Dejphon Chansiri now says Shea Charles has been recalled, after leaving the room shortly. So there we go. Hands up, had heard he was staying. Sounds like a late decision by Southampton. A hammer blow. Shea Charles has been fantastic. Chansiri did say he could still be available to play on Sunday vs Leeds #SWFC

Twitter users reacted as Sheffield Wednesday fans vent anger and demand change after a heated forum with the owner…

@tommyuto: Chansiri has had a pop at Shea Charles, Danny Röhl, carers, the disabled and labelled us all customers with no right to protest. How do people still think he’s right for us? #swfc

@SteveJ2403: Surreal moment as the #swfc fans forum reaches midnight and hence the loan clause deadline for Shea Charles. Chairman says ‘give me a minute’, goes out to check his phone, returns and says ‘Bad news. They recalled him.’ What a way to break news.

@clurrrrxhx: Chansiri didn’t have to do last nights forum but arrogantly chose to do it anyway. He’s hugely derailed one of the most exciting, positive seasons we’ve had in a while all in one night. He’s running us into the ground and doesn’t give a fuck. I just want my club back #swfc

@haddington: I mean it wasn’t never going to be good, but fuck me that was a proper shit show. Holding the club hostage, no intention to sell, Won’t negotiate with potential buyers. Slagging fans, players and the best manager we’ve had in years. Enough is enough. Needs to be gone. #swfc

@RocketOwl1986: Does he have the best interests of #swfc at heart. I used to believe he did but after last night I am left wondering what the hell is he doing with our club. Acting like a petulant child with this Rohl situation. You’re the owner!!!! Arrange a meeting with your manager!!! #swfc

@Lincolnshireowl: I literally don’t believe a word that DC says. When will we catch a break! Charles gone, Danny will be next! More than likely back in league 1 within 2 years. I am part of the problem though, season tickets booked again for next year, Wish I could boycott the place #swfc

@JPymTKC:
Key points from last night
– DC and DR have not spoke since Dec
– Hoping to bring in safe standing
– Charles isn’t good enough for Southampton but now recalled
– Fans don’t like DC then don’t go
– DC doesn’t want to sell and won’t look to sell,it’s upto fans to find a buyer #swfc

@chunkyboy61: My takeaway from last night are quite simple … Should never happen again. DC needs to keep his thoughts private. DR & Players waking up reading his comments from last night will not feel inspired one bit & totally demotivated. Fans are literally 🤮🤮& severely embarrassed #swfc

@doogleberry11: There must be someone out there that sees the potential our club has & has the money to buy us from this clown. It can’t continue. He’s clueless and has been for the last 10 years. Every time things are looking up he tears it down. Someone save us please… #swfc

@bolsawud: What an absolute shit show yet again !! wtf are these #swfc fan forums to achieve cos it certainly isn’t positivity!? Point scoring, tit for tat, petulance, no future plans oh & then as a result out best player goes back and “list of players” has been given – ffs 🤦🏻‍♂️ just go!!!
