Sheffield Wednesday chairman makes decision on manager’s future

Sheffield Wednesday chairman makes decision on manager’s future after Garry Monk’s side suffered a 3-1 defeat against Derby County on Saturday.

It comes as the Owls have won just two of their 13 league matches post-Christmas, which has seen them drop from 3rd to 12th in the Championship table.

Speaking after the game, the 40-year-old described the recent run of form as the most difficult period he has faced in his managerial career.

He said: “It’s probably the most difficult moment in my career in management, I’ve not quite seen anything like this period.

“We’re trying to work through it and trying to push these players and trying to help them and helping everyone is what my job is.

“I’m trying to do that but that work behind the scenes obviously isn’t reflecting in the performances and that’s not good enough.”

Sheffield Wednesday produced a shocking showing in the opening 30 minutes at Hillsborough where Derby County got themselves a three-goal lead thanks to Tom Lawrence’s brace and a strike from Jason Knight.

The Josh Windass managed to pull one back for Wednesday in the second half, however the damage was already done and a comeback couldn’t be found.

Despite the rapid drop down the table, Chansiri, who has lost the patience of many Wednesday fans, has assured Monk that he won’t be getting sacked, but instead remain as manager next season.

This come amid rumours that he could be swapping the current boss, who was appointed on September, for axed Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha.

His friend and colleague, Amadeu Paixao, was reported to have been with Chansiri at Hillsborough on Saturday, working as an advisor to the chief and club owner.

Caixinha managed Owls player Josh Windass, whilst at Rangers.

Fans gave their reaction as the whistle blew and before it was reported that the Sheffield Wednesday chairman makes a decision on the manager’s future…
