Sheffield United are to investigate after David McGoldrick is racially abused online, hours after Wilfried Zaha suffered the same this weekend.
The Blades forward has become the latest Premier League footballer to become the victim of yet another disgraceful attack over the colour of their skin.
The Premier League club have offered McGoldrick their full support and will be making sure they will identify the perpetrator of the abuse.
He took a screenshot of the abusive message he received, then uploaded it to his social media accounts, writing above it ‘2020 and this is life’.
As a club we will support David McGoldrick and will do all we can to find the perpetrator of this disgusting message.
We will work with the relevant authorities to ensure the person behind this post is brought to justice.

Sheffield United said: “As a club we will support David McGoldrick and will do all we can to find the perpetrator of this disgusting message.
“We will work with the relevant authorities to ensure the person behind this post is brought to justice.

The abuse came after McGoldrick hit a stunning brace against Chelsea which helped Chris Wilder’s side to a dominant a much needed 3-0 win.

The incident was reported just a day after West Midlands Police arrested a 12-year-old boy, after racist messages were sent to Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha.
He received a message saying ‘you better not score tomorrow you black c**n before the poster added ‘or I’ll come to your house dressed as a ghost.’
A poster was sent, showing a picture of a Klu Klux Klan gathering together, this is another threat, and another displaying an edited picture of a box of cornflakes, instead it had the words ‘c**nflakes’ across it and displayed a man with his face blacked up.
“We were alerted to a series of racist messages sent to a footballer today and after looking into them and conducting checks, we have arrested a boy,” read a WM Police tweet.
“The 12-year-old from Solihull has been taken to custody. Thanks to everyone who raised it. Racism won’t be tolerated.”
Speaking to Sky Sports before the arrest, Hodgson added: “It’s been highlighted at the moment anyway with the Black Lives Matter movement and everyone seems to be making such an effort to eradicate this behaviour.
“It is very sad that, on the day of a game, a player wakes up to this cowardly and despicable abuse. It’s right Wilf has made people aware of it and I don’t think this is something you should keep quiet about.
“He wants to put off one of our best players from playing well today, but to do it in the way he has chosen is totally inexcusable.”
The Premier League said: “This behaviour is completely unacceptable and the Premier League stands alongside Wilfried Zaha in opposing this, and discrimination in any form.
“We will continue to support players, managers, coaches and their family members who receive serious discriminatory online abuse.”
The incident is just the latest to be highlighted from over the duration of the current campaign, involving managers, players and pundits past and present receiving horrific racist messages on social media.
Just two weeks ago, the Premier League launched a new system online to allow Premier League players to report online abuse with a click of a button.
The system is also available to coaches, managers and family members and the league could pursue legal action on the behalf of any recipient.
There was a huge reaction as Sheffield United confirm they will investigate after David McGoldrick is racially abused…
Or even someone’s child. It’s incomprehensible and abhorrent.

Well played Sheff Utd.
It’s no coincidence why racists are coming out of the closet now.
This is what you get when you mix white fragility with a Civil Rights movement.

Some idiots out there and that’s putting it politely. . He’s a brilliant man & player, doesn’t take away the damage things like this can cause but he knows how much he is loved by us Blades ❤️

As a Chelsea fan I’m deeply sorry fro this and I’m disappointed that he is part of our club, I hope Chelsea take massive action against this guy and stop him from going to matches as that’s not acceptable and never will be

This will never end.
It’s disturbing and sad that people in 2020 still act like this.
Fingers crossed he’s caught and prosecuted.

All lives matter; right now whilst there are people who think/do/say things in which they can’t understand & celebrate difference #BlackLivesMatter is so important
Intolerance, fear & hate can never win
Hard work + uniqueness + common cause = Blades’ success this season!?⚔️⚪️

Better education around social media awareness and usage in schools too. The detachment of having a conversation or making statements behind a screen frees people up from the real weight of their words

There seems to be a trend amongst these messages where the senders are mainly KIDS or TEENAGERS.
I can’t work out whether they are looking for infamy, desperate for attention, raised in a racist household or just plain evil.
There’s definitely a pattern emerging.#NUFC #SUFC

These silly little boys need to be made an example of. Saw someone suggest they are made to have a sit-down and talk with the players who they racially abused, which is a good idea imo
