Ryan Inniss goes viral with unbelievable goal-line clearance as Forest Green draw with York

Ryan Inniss goes viral with an unbelievable goal-line clearance as National League leaders Forest Green draw 1-1 with York.

A clip of the moment from the weekend has wowed fans across the world, with it at the time of writing getting nearly 2 million views and 15,000 likes.

Forest Green wrote in their match report: “City created two good chances before the break, Joe Grey’s low effort going just past the upright, whilst Tyrese Sinclair had his strike headed off the line by Ryan Inniss in spectacular fashion.”

York meanwhile said: “Forest Green had some unbelievable defending to do of their own when Ryan Inniss somehow got his head to the ball to deny Sinclair’s shot off the line.”

Watch it from different angles at 6:09 in the video below, with the goals coming before the time it has been set to…

And for a short version of the match highlights…

Forest Green’s Robbie Savage said: “I’m proud of my team, we’re top of the league and are 12 games unbeaten.

“It’s a hard league and a tough league, and I never thought that I was going to come here and just walk the league, of course not.

“A few York fans when I was walking off at half-time said ‘Robbie, welcome to the National League, it’s not Macclesfield now’.

“That was slightly disrespectful, because every league is very, very hard and there was a bit of banter, I took it in good spirits and had a laugh, they were laughing too.

“Second-half, that is the National League, that’s what we’re all about.

“They are a good footballing side without really hurting us, their manager is really good, he’s brilliant.

“We were speaking throughout the game, he’s a nice guy and is very good.

“He’s a better manager than me because he’s been higher, and I want to aspire to get higher with this football club.”

“I’m proud of my boys. I thought we were unbelievable in that second-half.

“It was a game of two halves, not in terms of chances because we created the best chances of the first-half and we got a brilliant goal.

“Tre [Pemberton] does unbelievable and it’s a great touch from Kairo, and a great finish.

“We could have scored again, then they could have scored, and then we just switch off defensively, the one-two and Knowlesy brings him down.

“Knowlesy has been outstanding by the way, but it wasn’t a game for Knowlesy and Nicky [Haughton] so I had to make the changes.

“Yes, they’ve had possession, yes, we couldn’t get near them at times, but the thing for me is that you hear the ‘go forward and press’, but it wasn’t the game for that.

“As manager and my staff could recognise that, so we said to stay in our shape, and they never hurt us really, it was quite nice.

“How many saves did Luke make? There was one from a deflection.

“We had the better of the chances in the first-half, although they were the better footballing team, and I think that’s a fair assessment.

“The second-half, we came out, made the changes and we were so good, we were unbelievable.

“There was only ever going to be one winner, the defending was resolute, the keeping was good, the second-balls we landed on, the subs made an impact in the little moments.

“We were magnificent, I’m so proud of my team.”

York boss Stuart Maynard said, per Stroud Times: “I look at our return over the two games with Carlisle and Forest Green, two teams that I do firmly believe will be right in the mix come the end of the season.

“And to play them in such close succession with the intensity of the game, for us to play on Wednesday and then travel down here and then put on a performance like that, I have to give huge credit to our group.

“The intensity they played with again today and the bravery to keep getting on the ball and wanting to pass it was incredible.

“When you go behind so early as well, to work your way back into the game, that shows good character.

“I think we’ve got bundles and bundles of character in this group. And you see it in the second-half, we showed the character as well.”

On the penalty: “It was a clear foul, wasn’t it? And Pearce, he’s just got ice in his veins, hasn’t he? I thought Pearce was excellent tonight. His work ethic for the team out of possession. Sometimes he’s not going to be in games like this because they tried to go a little bit man-for-man.”

On Forest Green: “They’re a good team. I said it in the build-up to the game. They’re at the top of the league for a reason and I think they’ll be right there come the end of the season.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Ryan Inniss goes viral with an unbelievable goal-line clearance as Forest Green draw with York…

@VayamLahoti: I think that is the greatest bit of defensive play I have ever come across. Stupendous.

@MGallIBF: That’s incredible 👏👏👏

@Dmnnwmn: How his teammates aren’t losing their minds is unreal.

@FGR_sean37: I’ve watched this back like 20 times I still can’t believe it 😅

@riotmci: Fucking hell man that’s the type of save you see in fucking rocket league not football, fair enough

@tommyf1996: In person I thought it was the best bit of defence I’ve ever seen. On camera it looks even better. Sometimes you’ve just got to tie the opposition the benefit, that was superb #ycfc

@_LukeBlake: This is outrageous

@Gareth125596413: Wow, where the fuck did he come from

@connor06650159: Outstanding that 👏👏

@BayernBru2u: Absolutely unreal defending, that’s in the top corner until he gets his head on it.
