Ruben Amorim admits he may leave Man Utd if poor form continues in strong plea for change

Ruben Amorim admits he may have to leave Man Utd if poor form continues in strong plea for change in the summer transfer window.

Amorim admitted he may need to resign if the team’s poor Premier League form continues into next season after his side hit a new low with a 2-0 loss to West Ham at Old Trafford, with goals from Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen ending West Ham’s eight-game winless streak.

This defeat dropped United to 16th place, with West Ham moving above them to 15th. Since January 26th, United have only beaten relegated teams Ipswich and Leicester, enduring a seven-game winless run, their joint worst in the Premier League.

Amorim expressed embarrassment and acknowledged the need for significant changes, as previously highlighted by interim manager Ralf Rangnick in 2021, or risk losing his job.

As well as questioning his own future, Amorim said, per BBC Sport: “We are losing the feeling that we are a massive club and it’s the end of the world to lose a game at home.

“If we are not scared of losing a game as Manchester United and don’t have that fear anymore, it is the most dangerous thing a big club can have.

“Everybody here has to think seriously about a lot of things.

“Everybody is thinking about the [Europa League] final. The final is not the issue. We have bigger things to think about.

“I’m talking about myself and the culture in the club and the culture in the team. We need to change that.

“It’s a decisive moment in the history of the club.

“We need to be really strong in the summer and to be brave because we will not have a next season like this.

“If we start like this, if the feeling is still here, we should give the space to different people.”

When questioned what he thought when he looked at the Premier League table, Amorim replied: “How is a manager of Manchester United supposed to feel in that position? Embarrassed.”

All eyes are on if United can beat Tottenham in the Europa League final, which will mean they will qualify for next season’s Champions League, and potentially worth around £100m to the club.

“The final is by far the smallest problem in our club,” he said.

“We need to change something that is deeper than this. Playing in the Premier League and Champions League for us is the moon. We need to know that.

“I’m not concerned about the final. They will be focused but I don’t know what is best, if it’s playing in the Champions League or not.”

“In the Europa League, we don’t play quite well but we have a little bit of that urgency in having to win games,” he added. “We manage to find a way to win. We are so focused.

“In these games in the Premier League, sometimes we are not focused. It’s hard to explain that. There is a lack of urgency in everything we do. It’s a big concern.

“There’s a lack of urgency when we’re defending our box and there’s a lack of urgency when we are near the box.

“We need to be more aggressive and feel that it is the end of the world when we are not winning a game.

“There is a feeling that it’s OK because we cannot change our position so much. It is a big concern.”

Twitter users reacted as Ruben Amorim admits he may leave Man Utd if poor form continues in a strong plea for change…

@Bisping_Chad: No mercy in the summer. Sell Ugarte, Mainoo, Garnacho, Hojlund, Eriksen, Lindelof, Sancho, Antony, Rashford, Mount, Dalot, Malacia

@FPLfrasier: I have been saying this as well. 1/2 major changes to stating team isn’t enough. We are literally sitting at 16th. Lot of changes have to be done. If this was Madrid or Bayern, they would have done a complete overhaul. Many executives would be leaving the club right now as well.

@corky537: Clear message to the board. Back me or I walk. The board have to show ambition and bring in players that will change the culture/belief. They desperately need some “keane” characters

@TMJ_171: If Amorim started the season we would’ve been comfortably relegated 😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣

@UtdFaithfuls: Been seeing all the reactions since yesterday, and I genuinely can’t believe some United fans are talking about sacking Ruben Amorim. Yes, we’re so bad in the league and he definitely deserves some criticism, but this man came in mid-season and hasn’t even had one summer window. Shocking, that our fans are actually talking about “sack” now. I’m speechless.

@Sparklythemanc1: Atleast he is being honest and not trying to lie to my face

@MartienBall: This is why I love Amorim. The first manager to openly put pressure on the board. Bring in good players or I’m not wasting my time. Now, it’s up to INEOS.

@reityd8: Amorim takes responsiblity, but does fuck all to change the situation. Even if INEOS would try to go the Arteta way, he has already given up. Can’t see him making it past December unless these players start to play as a team or half of them are gone. Which won’t happen.

@HazaUTD: Ruben Amorim is an absolute spit in this face to this football club. 16th in the Premier League is unacceptable and regardless of wether we win the Europa league or not he needs to go. As this football isn’t sustainable in the slightest. After that final sack him! #AmorimOut

@ajohnson381989: Support the current manager. This cycle of sack the manager next manager in please has to stop. What so called Top manager is going to come to a club that doesn’t allow him to follow through with his own plans for the team, Unless they’re here for a nice payoff .
