Roy Keane offers typically blunt advice to new Brentford manager Keith Andrews before opening day defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Dan Ndoye scored a debut goal and Chris Wood registered his first double of the new season, Igor Thiago got one back from the penalty spot but Bees were well beaten at the City Ground.
The Sky Sports pundit advised the new Brentford manager to “try and win some games” amid challenges following Thomas Frank’s move to Tottenham.
Keane, who knows Andrews from their Ireland days under Martin O’Neill, said Andrews has inherited a squad with enough quality and talent to compete if he can hit the ground running.
Speaking ahead of Brentfordās opener, Keane said: āTry and win some games.
āWell, itās a great opportunity. Obviously, heās had a tough summer with players leaving and the manager leaving.
“But heās been in that environment last year, working there. But what an opportunity for him to work in the Premiership.
“For all the problems, thereās still enough there.
“Thereās still a good group of players, enough quality, and if they get one or two in over the next few weeks, what an opportunity.
āHe does talk a good game, he always has. He just needs to back it up now.
“Again, itās a good game for him today, going to Forest. I think they have a good record there; theyāll always be strong in terms of set pieces.”

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to Sky Sports after the game:
“I think we started really well. Expectations were high but the performance was really good and we are really pleased. A lot of things impressed me.
“We combined really well. I was delighted with how the team defended. That is always our main focus.
“We always want to play the best way that is possible. It’s a matter of approach and how we try to improve things.
On transfer window activity, he added: “Today doesn’t change what we address during the week. The squad needs more solutions and more options and more balance.”
Brentford boss Keith Andrews, speaking to Sky Sports:
“The game was pretty much done at half-time and I didn’t like a lot of what I saw in the first half.
“You have to do the basics at this level to give yourself a chance of winning games. It was the game we knew would be. Ball losses in critical areas cost us. There was a naivety I felt in some cases.”
On the absence of Yoanne Wissa, he added: “It is what it is. It’s an ongoing issue. Ideally Wissa would have been available today and unless anything has happened in the last few hours then it’s the same things.
“Hopefully it can resolve itself sooner rather than later. We’re always looking and there’s a clear plan at the club if a player leaves.”
“I was delighted the way the team defended!”

Here’s how fans reacted as Roy Keane offers typically blunt advice to new Brentford manager Keith Andrews before defeat…
@BrentfordHive: Maybe if we’d have signed some attackers before yesterday we’d actually have done something. Awful performance. Only positive was Schade. Made no sense to bench Hendo
@NFFC_02: Nothing but respect for you guys. Hope Andrews can pull it around. š
@JackLUFC1919: Brentford look terrible, maybe appointing keith andrews wasnt some revolutionary idea
@louorns: Brentford are playing like a team managed by Keith Andrews
@Biggies_MaIIs: Felt sorry for Keith Andrews. He clearly wanted Wissa in his squad and in his team today but heās obviously not in the right frame of mind after being tapped up. He wants the situation sorted. I donāt understand why Newcastle donāt just pay the asking price and get it over with.
@sorinetheturtle: so so frustrating today, happy heās not beating around the bush and just tells us straight how he feels.
@willhalsey1: If Forest played exactly as we expected why the hell did we play such a weak midfield and give Gibbs-White all the space in the world?
@AdamPrestage0: I am a forest fan but I come in peace šļø. Even though today was a bad result for you guys I just want to say it was just 1 game and I think you will be totally fine. Folks have been Writing off Brentford since day 1 in the Prem. You will be ok it will just take a few games š«¶
@TheKopHQ: Keith Andrews will be the first PL manager sacked this season. Completely out of his depth & everyone knew it back in June when he was appointed. Shite
@UtdMicah: The set piece coach-turned managerās first goal conceded being from a corner is incredibly ironic.
@KeenoBFC: thrown the new manager under the bus with this recruitment, joke front 3
@LuisAdrianoUK: Hendo probably wanting to go back to Saudi⦠Or Sailsbury⦠Or Staines⦠Just anywhere.
@_Luke_A_: We half-arsed pre season and it fucking shows. Embarrassing.
@ytfcaj00: Brentford 2021 – 2026, it’s been a fun ride in the Premier League
