Roy Keane was comforted by Ian Wright after fighting back tears over a picture of his Mum and Dad while on the Stick To Football podcast.
In a rare display of emotion, Roy Keane shared a photo of his parents from his playing days, talking about the support he got from his family during career highs, wins at Wembley.
There were other mementos such as his 1991 FA Cup final shirt and Manchester United contracts, which also got the pundits talking. Fair to say the new Show and Tell feature has gone down very well with viewers.
Keane shares his middle name with his father’s first name and both Maurice. His father passed away in 2019 at 79 after a stroke. His parents often attended matches during his career.
Roy Keane crying at a picture of his mum and dad fully sent me… Those tears came from nowhere.

As Keane showed a photo of his parents, he said: “You’re on about photos, look at that there.
“You’re on about family, the ups and downs of football. But when you see your family at Wembley after you’ve won a big game…”
Keane passed the photo around, and while giving it to Gary Neville, he became visibly emotional, with Ian Wright reaching over and comforted him.
Wright then said “it’s a good one” and “that’s beautiful” before requesting to see the photo again, so he could take another look at it with Keane.
After seeing Keane’s reaction, Scott added: “That’s why photographs are so good to keep, aren’t they?
“Some people have the photographs instead of [having them] on their phone.”
Keane then showed another picture of himself as a 13 year old and said: “I’m in a United top there but that is my brother’s. I think the Spurs one was sold out.”

This heartfelt moment where Roy Keane was comforted by Ian Wright after fighting back tears over a picture of his Mum and Dad went viral, here’s how fans reacted…
@StreetwiseStu79: The takeaway from this is Ian wright. What a guy, he knew Roy was welling up and give Roy that tap on the knee and told him “it’s a beautiful picture” ❤️❤️🇾🇪🇾🇪
@GerryKeogh_: Ian Wright is such lovely man he understood exactly what was going on and comforted Roy, but did it in a way not to draw more attention to his tears.
@jude13jd: Ian handled it so amazingly. Turned up his shoulder to block the camera from Roy. Dont know if its intentional or not. But Ian always been wholesome.
@UtdMicah: If I was a creative director at a mental health charity, a travel show with Roy Keane & Ian Wright is surely the biggest tap-in of all time.
@dejdream: As a lifelong Liverpool fan, you’d told me when I was a kid that I’d genuinely love Roy Keane 20 years later, I’d never have believed you. And him and Wrighty together 🥺 Two national treasures
@_DIGB: 30 seconds that sums up Ian Wright. Spots Roy and understands exactly what his friend needs. Words of affirmation and a quick arm on the shoulder. A great guy and a phenomenal mate
@KHeneage: This is why folk love Wrighty. Didn’t say anything, didn’t try to ask any questions, he was just there for his mate.
@ElliottDGareth: Wrighty is a great bloke, understood the trigger straight off. Lost my dad this year, I’ve not really been able to face looking at many pictures/videos yet, but music/songs do get me-stuff that he didn’t necessarily like but from an occasion or a lyric.
@ToffeeMc1878: I honestly think the Overlap is the best thing Roy Keane could have done for his image because I find him so much more likeable on there when he’s acting more like himself. Wrighty we already knew is the salt of the earth.
@ProudlyPastoral: So many subtleties here, but Ian Wright really is a top bloke. Returns the tap on the leg, gets the picture back, reinforces how lovely the picture is. Lets Roy know he’s supporting him whilst also giving him space. He’s a great role model for healthy masculinity.
@harryadamsss: Can’t ever go unsaid how good a bloke Ian Wright is. In a world where you can be anything, be like Ian Wright.
@DaytrippingRed: Even the toughest men have a weakness, for most that kryptonite is their family. Men need mates like Ian Wright, who have your back when you’re in that moment, no judgement just understanding and being your mate. This is a great depiction of just that
@ross11ross: Ian Wright & Roy Keane’s relationship is one of the best things in modern day football. Gimmie ten shows wi just the two of them chatting for every ‘influencer’ or ‘baller’ shite
@JackDornz: If you’ve got a mate like Ian Wright, make sure you keep them around. Absolute belter
