Rotherham’s Tony Stewart gets hilariously compared to Steve Bruce and Colonel Sanders

Rotherham’s Tony Stewart gets hilariously compared to Steve Bruce and Colonel Sanders after his rare appearance on Sky Sports.

Prior to his side’s clash against Leeds on Friday, the club’s chairman gave an update regarding Rotherham’s search for their next manager having waved goodbye to Matt Taylor.

At the time, the Millers sat 22nd in the Championship with his final match being a 5-0 defeat at Watford on Saturday, leaving the Millers four points from safety, ending his 13 month stay, and during that time, he guided Rotherham to safety last season, but had to go after two wins from their 16 league games for 2023/24.

Wayne Carlisle is overseeing things for the meantime whilst the club find a new permanent manager to takeover.

Tony Stewart ended up going viral in quite an unexpected way…

Interviewer: Can you provide an update with the manager search?

Stewart: Well, I’ve been away for a few days and I knew that I’d be out of the country for a few days, so we left it a while.

“We’ve had a lot of people that’s put the letters in the bag and we’ve got some good talent to look at.”

Interviewer: “Why was it you feel you needed to make the dangerous that Watford game, that the tipping point?”

Stewart: “Well, if we look recent history, I’m saying recent, time flies, that when we got Neil Warnock in.

“There were 16 games to go and it’s crucial that you want to give new managers a chance.

“And with 30 games to go, results as they were, we either had to stick or bust.

“And I think it was a case of talking to the board and unanimously, we took a decision on a bright, intelligent manager.

“Ever so sorry, because you do get close to managers and I’m still the custodian and decisions have to be made. And that was it.”

Interviewer: “Given that you acted so quickly at the start of the international break, what has been the delay? Do you feel that you haven’t been able to get someone in place in time for this one?”

Stewart: “Believe you me, within hours, I think the Daily Mail was saying that we’d dispense with the manager on the night before we actually dispense of him.

“So I don’t know how they got that information, but within hours we were getting calls, we were getting emails and all sorts. It was dynamic.

“As I said, it was really complementary, really, the talented managers that were putting that out in the rink, some were employed, some weren’t employed, so it was nice to let them gather.

“I knew that I was going away, so I got the time, really, to put the effort in to do it, and it’s allowed us to get more people to put the hat in the ring.

“And I’m happy that we’ve been able to take stock, take its time and we start moving now.”

Interviewer: “And how close are you to make an appointment? Will it be here in time for the next game?”

Stewart: “I doubt that. I think that it’ll be all action next week, appointments, we’ve not seen anybody yet.

“We’ve shortlisted and we may have to shortlist again, because I said it’s been incredible, the response that we’ve had.

“So, yeah, we’ve had time to take stock behind the scenes, other people have had a look, we’ve had recruitment talking to certain individuals, so we’ve not been stood still.”

As mentioned, Rotherham’s Tony Stewart gets hilariously compared to Steve Bruce and Colonel Sanders…

@Villamole1: Steve Bruces dad

@rufc_pod: Probably have been best to not do this interview. More questions than answers

@SDMckenna28: I thought that was Steve Bruce with a new hair cut 😂😂

@Dec_Martin7: I love him to bits, but he’s had an absolute mare with this interview 🤣

@JakePrice1927: At first glance I thought that was Steve Bruce 😂

@AldoScrim89: Colonel Sanders called, he wants his suit back mate.

@ArgyleMemes: I thought ‘Why is Brucey dressed like Colonel Sanders?’.

@JamesCooper_94: “How’s the boneless banquet did you say?

@Justom29: Steve Bruce if he worked at KFC

@nefoxy91: Not gonna lie I thought this was some comedian doing a Steve Bruce sketch 👀

@buckfastbadlad: fella looks like he’s ready to perform at the Phoenix Club

@JL_rufc: Our own chairman admitting to the fact that he’s not interested in getting a new manager in, and would rather go on a holiday he’s had booked. The guy has embarrassed us on Sky Sports, but they’ll still be fans blowing smoke up his arse. I’m sorry, but the guy is clueless.

@sawyer_macca: Fucking hell congrats @SkySports for getting an interview with colonel sanders that is huge

@MillersMum1986: What a joke! Would rather go on holiday than put the effort in to find a manager! Managerless for two of the thirty games at least he wants to give the next manager, no proper short list yet and no interviews! It’s been two weeks almost now, great use of the break!
