Rochdale keeper Jay Lynch slams AFC Fylde chairman over comments on Danny Rowe

Former AFC Fylde goalkeeper Jay Lynch has hit out at his old club’s chairman over comments he made on Danny Rowe in a recent matchday programme.

David Haythornthwaite said, ahead of his side’s win against Southport in the FA Trophy, why the club had transfer listed Rowe earlier in last week.

Delighted to finally sign for @officiallydale ⚽️??

While revealing why, he referenced Lynch’s move to Rochdale, where the goalkeeper has made eight appearances, which the club’s owner suggested to Rowe that ‘the grass isn’t always greener on the other side’.

He wrote: “This week has certainly been an eventful one in many ways with lots happening on the transfer front.

“Jim (Bentley) has started to make his mark and is very clear about his expectations from everyone involved from the kitman to academy players.

“If you aren’t 100 per cent committed to the shirt then please move on and I support this view in its entirety.

“Not only do you need this mentality to stay in the League, but to win it too.

“To this end, we have decided to put Danny Rowe – our all-time leading scorer and club legend – on the transfer list.

“As I said in mid-week, Danny has had his head turned by his agent who has been agitating for a move for some time now.

“It’s a simple issue, at the moment he doesn’t get a penny for looking after Danny Rowe, but if he moves he will.

“He, like the majority of agents, are only interested in lining their own pockets and that’s what we have to deal with.

“If the right offer comes in then we will not stand in his way but we are not letting him go for peanuts and to date we have only had one club show any interest.

“They have offered peanuts and that’s because that is all they have.

“I sincerely hope that common sense will prevail and that when Danny realises his agent is “full of it” he may well decide that the grass is still pretty green here.

“You only have to look back at Jay Lynch, another one whose agent told him he could get him into a League club.

“He has spent all season sitting on the bench at Rochdale.”

Hitting back via Twitter, Lynch – who left Fylde during the summer posted: “I see the AFC Fylde chairman hasn’t changed his ways. What a bitter man. The exact reason I left AFC Fylde.

“I thought the club was ambitious. Get out while you can @DannyLRowe mate the grass is pretty sweet in Rochdale.”

“Oh and @DannyLRowe he will ring your agent in 3 months too like he did with mine and tell him he made a mistake can he have you back.

“Anyway, all the best for the rest of the season David pal.”

TWITTER REACTION:

@carl25744841: Ambitious ? They have pulled up trees with 1200 fans they have hit there limit the chairman a self confessed lifelong Blackpool fan couldn’t get his foot through the door down the road so he bought a new toy called afc Fylde Monet can’t buy you love ⚽️?⚪️

@ButlerAndy: So his beef is Danny Rowe’s agent is trying to get him a move. It’s how it works these days. I bet Haythornwaite has used agents to his and his club advantage when buying all those promotions, now the boots on the other foot he’s bleating.

@fitzochris: That’s really shortsighted of the chairman, is that. You’re currently understudy to a Premier League keeper we do not own. Your time will come and, no doubt, you will move further up the chain when you do well. That’s how football works.

@BillyBy17: He offered me outside when Fylde beat county in the FA Trophy, his exact words were “we can’t buy class but we can buy promotions which is more than your shithouse club can do” the guy is a ?? anytime he wants to come for a drink it’s fine

@DGardinerSPUD: Yes Lynchy what a guy drive him here lad x

@oliverw59419987: Sad to see you say this @JayLynchy but we all agree. Things need to change or it’s relation. We miss you at Fylde ? ⚪️

@GaryFielden: Why does a chairman feel the need to come out with such crap? Class keeps it in house trying to endear yourself to others and build a wedge between fans and players gets it out in the programme. Both Danny and Jay have been brilliant for Fylde and deserve more respect.

@Sandylaner77: There’s no shame in being on the bench at a league one club Lynchy. You’ve got to be a quality player to get in a squad at this level. Hope you enjoy St. James on Tues, it beats playing Notts County in a scrap to avoid relegation.
