Rochdale go viral announcing Kwaku Oduroh as their new signing in an amusing video including a scene from Peter Kay Phoenix Nights show.
While the National League club have suffered some pretty miserable times of late, Dale produced something that put a smile on many faces in the last week.
The video starts with a scene from the much loved Channel 4 show of a man in a blue van pulling up to character Ray Von in a car park and asks: “Where do you want it?”
Von replies: “What is it?”
Rochdale then edited over the van man’s original response with an AI voice that says: “New signing for Rochdale Football Club.”
Von responds: “Sounds like a good swap.”
Another shows a conversation between character Brian Potter and his staff holding a meeting, with nightclub host Jerry Dignan adding to Potter: “Look, what it is – we’re struggling here.”
Potter: “I’ve sorted all this out, right just relax, you’re twisting my melon man – everyone knows what they’re doing, everything is going to be alright.”
The video then shows new signing Kwaku Oduroh posing in-front of a large Rochdale club badge on the side of a van, Potter says: “Oh my God, sweet Jesus of Nazareth.”
Members of the meeting stop, look over and are in shock with one making the sign of a cross across herself.
Oduroh is again seen holding a Rochdale scarf above his head to which a character asks Potter: “Well what do you think?”
Potter: “I said that I wanted a -“, before the generic voice is dubbed over again, saying: “Right back.”
“It’s not how it looks Brian,” says one character.
Potter: “It’s not how it looks? It’s a -” the AI voice is heard: “Defender on loan from Derby.”
“It don’t look like nothing else.”

CLUB STATEMENT:
Rochdale Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of full-back Kwaku Oduroh.
He joins on a season-long loan from Sky Bet League One side Derby County.
Upon joining up with the squad, the 20-year-old said he is excited for what lies ahead.
“I’m delighted, of course,” commented Oduroh.
“The gaffer showed a real interest and that was promising for me. We spoke a lot throughout the off-season and there was a clear plan.
“Coming on loan, he needs to trust that I can benefit his squad and help the development of the squad. For me, as a young player, for him to show that trust in me is everything.
“I want to show what I can do. I’ve not quite had the chance yet in my career, for one or two reasons, but I have a new opportunity and a chance to do it. I’m very excited and ready to go.”
Head Coach Jimmy McNulty commented:
“We’re very happy to secure Kwaku’s services for the coming season.
“He’s a high energy, durable full-back with good pedigree, having been developed in Manchester City’s Academy. He’s tactically flexible with good game intelligence.
“Culturally, in terms of his character and professionalism, Kwaku fits the profile we’re looking for.
“He will give us more depth and competition in the full-back position, but he also offers us versatility with capabilities of playing in a few positions if required, which will be valuable to us during the season.”
Oduroh is a product of the Manchester City Academy, having joined at the Under-9 age group.
During his time with the European Champions, he won the Under-18 Premier League and Premier League 2.
He left the club last summer and signed for Derby County on a two-year-deal following a successful trial.
The 20-year-old made six appearances for The Rams’ First Team last season and was a regular for their Under-21 team.
Welcome to the club, Kwaku!
