‘RIP Soccer Saturday’ – Sky Sports set to axe two more pundits

Sky Sports are reportedly set to axe two more pundits and it’s left fans contemplating whether to watch the scores show from next season.

With the impending departure of long-serving host Jeff Stelling, who will go once the campaign has come to an end, sources say that a few more faces could join him.

64 year old Chris Kamara, who’s worked for Sky since 1999, has ‘seen the writing on the wall’ with Stelling departing, and is understood to have kept his intentions quiet as he does not wish to steal his pal’s thunder.

Another who may look set to leave is former Celtic and Aston Villa striker Alan McInally with the 59 year old, formerly a member of the studio pundits, has been reporting on the road across the EFL in recent times as a potential ploy to eventually get rid and replace with someone younger according to the Daily Mail.

“I have loved every moment of my 30 years with Sky, but like every Saturday afternoon the time eventually comes to blow the final whistle,” Jeff said.

“I am proud to have been part of such a winning team for so long and look forward to the many more special moments on Soccer Saturday for rest of this season – and perhaps even another promotion push from Hartlepool United.”

It comes after a flurry of cuts brought in by Sky in 2020, with the Soccer Saturday panel of Matt Le Tisser, Charlie Nicholas and Phil Thompson all axed by the broadcaster in a bid to cut costs. Paul Merson will be the last one standing.

“One of my saddest days ever at Sky Sports with the departure of three of my best mates,” he tweeted on the line-up change.

“They have been part of a team that for me was the best.”

Twitter users reacted with reports that Sky Sports is set to axe two more pundits…

@GoonerJo2201: This sounds more like ageism than “cost-cutting”

@robincharlesw67: It’s just a result show now no banter allowed

@DavidTa41816701: Please don’t keep merson

@tomc180: Right that’s it.. cancel the subscription

@CraigJeffery99: Jeff & Kammy going ? Soccer Saturday RIP
@Joe_Hart_Lane” Soccer Saturday is finished

@AFCLiam0304: Show has already fell off anyways

@AndyFootner: What do Sue Smith and Clinton Morrison actually bring to the show

@Joe_NUFC_: You’re joking. “Cheers Jeff” “a dunno Jeff” a brilliant era over 😭

@WadeJacobs19: Fuck Sky.

@boris_macy: Please tell me these guys are all leaving so they can do their own Soccer Saturday-style show on a different channel 🙏

@KulusevskiSZN: Truly is the end of an era

@DutchMcLovin: Noooooooo

@whujoe: delete soccer saturday

@cathalhaughey02: RIP soccer Saturday

@James06878473: End of Soccer Saturday, be no fun, jeff was Soccer Saturday, was on the way out when three lads were let go

@CW_Wells123: They are all jumping ship. Soccer Saturday is going to so boring now, its just so bad.

@Jake82292492: Hope they do their own goal show on Amazon or something

@LammoHD: You could tell he wasn’t right when the lads left but makes sense join his mates

@Ands14: Who still watches Soccer Saturday anyway? I’m sure Jeff will get the band back together again on @btsportfootball anyway

@Jason_Kavanagh: Soccer Saturday is dead and has been ever since they changed the panel. Now it’s absolutely garbage from people who can’t even string a sentence together

@stevieelliott6: Neewonder havin to work wi pissheads like merse!

@Dave43926598: @SkyFootball RIP Gillette soccer Saturday I won’t be watching

@ManUnitedTalk: I haven’t watched Soccer Saturday in years. The new format is terrible. I actually think it did need shaking up a little bit. I didn’t mind a few of the old panel being replaced but the new format is shit. BT’s score one isn’t great neither.

@uberhonda: This is mainly because he’s going to lose his “unbelievable Jeff” catchphrase. Unbelievable Jules just doesn’t cut it. 😂😂😂

@ForeverAYellow: What a huge shame this will be, loved the show for years, but now its going to shit, cant understand why they’re fixing what isnt broken.
