Unfortunately it was another night marred by fans, in this article, we look at what racism was said to England players by Hungary fans.
The Three Lions thrash their opposition to maintain a 100% record in the World Cup qualifying. Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and Declan Rice with the goals.
Jude Bellingham however was the target of racist chanting from home supporters, Sterling was pelted with drinks cups while celebrating his goal and loud boos inside Puskas Arena as England players take the knee.
4-0 England?

England captain Harry Kane, speaking to ITV Sport: “A fantastic result. This is a really tough place to come and it would be a difficult game. Such a big game as well. We knew getting a result here would out us in a good position and one foot in the World Cup. Couldn’t be better… 4-0 and a great night for us.
“We said to just keep moving the ball quick and get the ball out wide would be key. Opening the gaps and exploiting it. They got tired in the second half and we were able to capitalise by taking our chances when we needed to.
“Two more big games now. At home to Andorra, when we will be favourites. And then Poland away which will be like tonight. They have dropped some more points but if we can come away with two more wins we are pretty much there for qualification.”
On the racist chants aimed at England players: “I didn’t hear that. I will talk to the boys and see if they heard any of it. We will have to report it to Uefa as the rules permit. If that is the case, hopefully Uefa come down strong.”
Karen Carney on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Shocking scenes again, it is unnecessary from the fans.
“As soon as Raheem Sterling scored I thought ‘here we go again’. You knew something was going to happen. It is beyond a joke now.
“The governing bodies have to be consistent and they have to group together and eradicate it. It is not on, it is not good enough.
“Disappointing but credit to the England players for being professional and getting the job done but they shouldn’t have to go through that.
“It is a joke.”
England defender Harry Maguire tells BBC Radio 5 Live: “We knew it would be tight and cagey, a tough game but if you looked at their results from the Euros they did decent at half time. We knew the chances would come and when they did we took them.
“We knew the mentality of the squad would be tested after the disappointment of the Euros final. We are in a great position now and have a big game on Sunday and then Tuesday to stamp our authority on the group.”
On boos when taking the knee: “It was disappointing to hear the boos but it has happened in previous games, we knew what to expect but I am happy all the boys stood by it.”
On monkey chants: “I have spoke to a couple of lads, I did not hear them myself and if it did happen then I am disappointed. Three, four of us did not hear them but you guys can hear them more clearly on TV.”
Juliette Ferrington on BBC Radio 5 live: “For all the celebrations from England’s performance tonight, the disappointing side has now turned to monkey chants from the Ultras, the stand behind the goal that England are attacking.
“I definitely heard one and saw it with my own eyes, aimed toward Jude Bellingham, when hew was warming up. Another plastic cup was thrown and he reacted with his fingers and carried on.
“Then came the monkey chants and there have been four different reports of that. Raheem Sterling was also targeted after Harry Kane’s goal.”
“A fan has come on to the pitch, I assume it is a home fan, and stewards have piled on to him.
“That was the area of the ground where the flare and cups were thrown.”
England boss Gareth Southgate: “I was very pleased with the first half, we were in total control of the game, controlled possession and were playing the right types of passes, just not connecting in that final third. We had so much of the ball we knew they would tire, we had great chances to score more goals.
“The first couple of goals came from turnovers and quick counter-attacks, we used the ball well all night. There is not much between the two halves, they were open and the goals came. We have made a very difficult game look quite comfortable.
“It was definitely an incredible atmosphere and in a football sense the players kept the crowd quiet. I have heard reports of racism and we were not aware of that during the game. I am not sure we were particularly sensible celebrating right in front of their fans with the flare but the racism is the key part. We try to take a right stand, we knew taking the knee would get an adverse reaction and anything of that nature is unacceptable.”
Tony Burnett, chief executive of Kick It Out, urged Fifa to investigate as a matter of urgency.
“Kick It Out was appalled to see the actions of some Hungary fans,” he said.
“We stand proudly in support of the England players and staff, who once again acted with strength, grace and integrity in the face of racism that has no place in our game or our society.
“This is not the first incident like this in Hungary, so we urge Fifa to investigate this matter urgently.
“Those responsible need to be held to account and steps need to be taken to ensure scenes like this are not repeated.”
The FA wrote: “It is extremely disappointing to hear reports of discriminatory actions towards some of our England players. We will be asking FIFA to investigate the matter. We continue to support the players and staff in our collective determination to highlight and tackle discrimination in all its forms.”
Twitter users reacted on what racism was said to England players by Hungary fans…
And that’s why #eng players continue to take the knee. #HUNENG

@CaseyyUtd: nothing will happen to them, so tiring to see this happen time and time again
@NaismithMatt: They won’t though, they’ll get a fine, slap on the wrist and a closed door game. Points deduction or Disqualified from the tournament
@_JackLewis: ÂŁ5.60 fine incoming for the Hungarian FA
@JasonLTFC: It’s time to make a stand. If FIFA don’t take action, which they won’t. Make a big stand. We can’t rely on our own government to tackle racism. Now is your chance to show you truly want to kick it out.
@shrimperjon: Yet their games under uefa are to be played behind closed doors but because this is a fifa fixture they are allowed fans in the ground to abuse our players
@luke_bwfc: Imagine the stick England fans would get from the press if they behaved like these Hungary fans tonight…
@AlexanderMcQui4: It’s sadly getting worse not better.
@denniscatley: @UEFA time for some proper punishments. Make a setting stone & do your bit to make it stop. Not 68p fines or 4 game bans.
@S4SH_P: I wish we could just talk about the performance on the pitch, but we can’t whilst our players are being subjected to racism. Backing our @England players on the pitch means backing them off it too!! #Noroomforracism #ThreeLions #kickitout #HunEng
@CFCAzza97: Why are these teams still allowed fans in the grounds?
@Lewisryan28: sort it out
@PaulSmi71851275: I think Hungry need banning from international football for a few seasons.
@KelvinEHughes: What is there to investigate? The whole world saw it. Kick Hungary out and every country that does the same thing. Paltry fines and a few matches behind closed doors achieves nothing.
@leahhh__21: place a case against Hungary and get them disqualified, cheers x
