Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly among a number of clubs keeping tabs on Lyon midfielder Pavel Šulc following his impressive rise in France.
The Czech Republic international has quickly established himself as one of Lyon’s biggest attacking threats, with his performances now attracting interest from Spurs and several other clubs.
But Tottenham may have to spend big to get him.
Reports suggest Lyon would demand at least €50million before considering a sale, raising an interesting question for Spurs after already investing heavily in their midfield during the summer.
Šulc’s stock continues to rise
Šulc only joined Lyon in August 2025 but wasted little time making an impact.
The attacking midfielder scored 11 league goals and provided three assists in 27 appearances during an impressive debut campaign, while reports credit him with 35 goal contributions across all competitions.
His rise has also been recognised back home, with Šulc named Czech Footballer of the Year for 2025.
Capable of operating as an attacking midfielder and across the forward line, Šulc would offer Tottenham another player capable of contributing goals from behind the striker.
That output helps explain why his reputation has grown so quickly and why Lyon are reportedly in a position to demand a substantial fee.
Would Spurs spend another €50m?
That could ultimately be the most interesting question surrounding Tottenham’s reported interest.
Spurs strengthened their midfield during the summer with the additions of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, meaning another €50m move would represent a significant further investment in that area of the squad.
However, their difficult start to the Premier League season provides an obvious argument for further improvement.
Tottenham remain without a league victory after their opening five matches and have collected just two points from a possible 15.
Both of Tottenham’s league goals came in the 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa, meaning Spurs failed to score in each of their previous four matches.
For a side struggling to find a cutting edge, the attraction of a midfielder coming off an 11-goal league campaign is obvious.
Šulc could offer Spurs something different
Šulc’s numbers suggest he could provide more than simply another creative option.
His ability to get into dangerous positions and contribute goals himself could give Tottenham another dimension in the final third, particularly if their early-season struggles continue.
There is currently no indication that Spurs have submitted an offer or opened formal negotiations with Lyon, meaning this remains reported interest rather than an active transfer deal.
But Šulc’s trajectory is moving quickly, and another strong season in France would only increase the attention surrounding him.
If Lyon do hold out for around €50m, Tottenham will have to decide whether the attacking threat he could bring is worth another major investment after already strengthening their midfield during the summer.
