A new report issued claims ‘ambitious’ Newcastle are lining up SIX big January transfer targets, and it’s got plenty of talk online already.
Eddie Howe’s side got their much needed boost in the summer with the likes of Sven Botman, Alexander Isak and Nick Pope coming into the squad.
But as many of us know already, the manager wanted a wide forward, and is keen to re-enter the market in January.
According to The Athletic, the Toon’s recruitment team have a number of targets in mind.
Newcastle would love to sign currently in form James Maddison from Leicester, but are likely to be met by resistance from Brendan Rodgers’ strugglers.
Come January, Maddison will have just 18 months left on his Foxes deal – but Leicester possess the option to extend it by a further year.

Howe is also a big fan of Leeds’ Jack Harrison, but the Whites are also desperate not to lose the winger.
Newcastle chose to prioritise their swoop for Isak over Watford’s Joao Pedro in the summer. And the Brazilian forward has just signed a new contract. If they look out of the promotion race however, could it be a different story?
Everton are also closing in on a new long-term contract for Magpies target Anthony Gordon.
It’s understood that talks with Gordon are “progressing well” and both parties are keen to come to an agreement that represents the forward’s new status as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young prospects.
It would mean a substantial pay increase for the England Under 21 international, who already has a contract until 2025.
But Everton feel that is just reward for a player who has gone from fringe man to key first-team member and reacted well to a summer of speculation that saw the Toffees reject bids from Chelsea, Newcastle and Spurs for him.
Palmeiras wonderkid Endrick continues to grow, with Barcelona, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur mentioned in that race for the midfielder’s signature.
And Newcastle is seen as a ‘possible destination’ for Dutchman Stefan de Vrij, who plays centre back, with his club ‘preparing for long goodbye’.
Mykhaylo Mudryk has also drawn interest with his form for Shakhtar Donetsk – netting against RB Leipzig and Celtic in the Champions League.
The 21-year-old is on Newcastle’s list of targets, along with Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen said to be a “dream signing”.
Newcastle currently sit 10th in the Premier League table, picking up 8 points from 7 games played.
After 7 games played in 2021/22, they sat 19th with three points and remained in the relegation zone until the 21st game. The first win of that league season came in December against Burnley (game 15).
Howe’s men beat Nottingham Forest on the opening day, but haven’t won since, drawing five matches and lost only one since – a late defeat at Liverpool.
As a new report claims ‘ambitious’ Newcastle are lining up SIX big January transfer targets, fans couldn’t help but react…
@Chris_Hall1312: New contract for Joao Pedro then?! Seems like we’ll be paying top money for him in January/the summer or he’ll no longer be coming to the Toon 👀 🖤🤍#NUFC #joaopedro
@NufcBryan: I really think Maddison will be a January move as for Pedro I think we’ve moved on from him that’s why we got Isak
@Toonern: I think they will see Pedro as an upgrade on one of our current wingers. We need depth. He’s securing himself, he thought he was a nufc player. Surely a buyout clause
@The_Her0n: If it’s TRUE that Botman is unhappy with game time I don’t blame him tbh. He came here to play and he is the best ball playing defender we have. Should be starting every game. Can’t drop Schar or Burn fuck off! Yes we can grow some balls and do it! #nufc
@NicolaDolby5: My reasons for wanting us to sign Ward-Prowse over Maddison. Whilst Shelvey has improved dramatically he’s not a youngster. Ward-Prowse is perfect for the Shelvey role, he works hard & picks a great pass. Ideal replacement in that No. 6 role. Maddison’s a luxury we don’t need atm
@nufcsingapore: JWP would be a top signing! Quality and PL proven. Wont come cheap though. 🙏
@Magpie24_7: Need a new winger in Jan. In games where it requires us to break teams down. Fraser, Miggy and Murphy just aren’t direct enough. They’re good when we can play on the counter. But teams are happy coming to at James to get a point. Palace and today proving this.
@RobRichardson28: Exactly this. Almiron, Fraser even Willock not clinical enough when teams are sitting deep. Missed ASM’s directness today and how different could these type of games been if we had got Maddison…
@ajhsom: Kept crossing from the byline straight into the keepers hands. Put it back between the 6 yard box and the penalty spot. TBF 10 year olds would know to do this. Almiron and Frazer are absolute gunk.
@davesmith_21: We definitely need more depth in midfield!
@TBM_IX: I think we get Maddison in January
@SamTooon: Maddison, a winger and a CDM target for January 👍🏽👌🏻
@BlahBlahBlah__9: Maddison a target? I thought we have a no dickheads policy
@luke_curry: we need to have a look at cody Gakpo for January #nufc
@trevorslater: Cody Gakpo , James Maddison and Youri Tielemans in. Murphy , Ritchie and Fraser out. If we are still 10th or above by January and bring these 3 in then we qualify for Europe .
@El_Cunto76: We’ve just had 3 months of a transfer window and struggled to get the players most of it, so not expecting much in January as it’s a much shorter window
@DanielMad27: Get me Tielemans maddison and diaby in January please #NUFC
@magpie_local1: Maddison is wasting away in that #LCFC team, needs the move in January if he wants to stay in the Premier League 🤷♂️ #NUFC 🖤🤍🖤🤍
