Reading’s Amadou Mbengue and Jayden Wareham seen rattling angry Wycombe fans

Reading’s Amadou Mbengue and Jayden Wareham were seen rattling angry Wycombe fans with a video of the moment posted on social media.

Mbengue and Wareham both played roles in the 1-0 victory for the Royals, Mbengue and Wareham’s performances winding up a few fans in the away end.

Mbengue’s defensive solidity and Wareham’s tenacity, as well as their winding up in an already tense away crowd, particularly after Harvey Knibbs’ penalty sealed the win.

The result meant Wycombe lost more ground on 2nd place Wrexham, the Chairboys 3rd in League One with 54 points from 40 games, Wrexham and with 81 points from 41 games.

Speaking after the win, Reading boss Noel Hunt said, per Reading Chronicle: “I don’t think we started the best, they came out of the traps quicker than us, but we weathered the storm for 25 minutes and after that we came into the game and come the end of it, we were the better team.

“To limit them, with the quality they have, to one shot on target where Joel makes the save, we were very pleased.

“I’m delighted for him [Knibbs] and Chem with a moment of belief and positivity to drop his shoulder and force the error.

“These games are never easy. They are tight. I’ve never seen a good footballing derby. It was tenacious, there were tackles and hits, moaning, counterattacks. It had everything today, I’m just happy we came out on the right side of it.

“It was bouncing like the old days. Look where we are, sixth in the league and fighting for every ball. We have to stay focused and hopefully they stick with us, come to the next games and give us all the support they can.

“We have a small squad and a young bunch; we are impressionable and enthused by what we see. The fans were amazing today- it was hard for me to get my voice across the pitch.”

Wycombe’s Mike Dodds said, per Reading Chronicle: “If I am being honest, it has been a really harsh week.

“The fans, the players and the people behind the scenes at the club don’t deserve what has happened.

“We have had over 50 shots on goal in two games and we’ve not scored, yet today’s opposition has had.

“Will Norris hardly made a save and we should have six points.

“It is tough to take and we’ll feel sorry for ourselves for the next few hours, but we’ll dust ourselves off for Tuesday [against Huddersfield].

“From my perspective, listening to the players from what they have said to each other, they know the performances are fine.

I think we need a little bit of luck in the final third and sadly, we haven’t had that in recent games.

“If we keep performing like we have done in recent games, we will be fine.

“I hate talking about data because the reality is that I have lost a game of football, but Reading had an XG of 0.10 – they did not look like scoring in any way today.

“I saw it was going one way and was waiting for that moment to land for us.

“When the penalty happens and they score, the game completely changes.

“It’s been a harsh week for everyone connected to the club, but if we keep creating those chances, a team is going have a lot of goals scored against them in the next six games.

“I just want more quality as we need to score from our chances.”
