Radcliffe appoint experienced EFL player as their new player-assistant manager

Radcliffe appoint an experienced EFL player as their new player-assistant manager, and it’s gone down very well with supporters.

The Northern Premier League Premier Division side have brought in 30 year old Bobby Grant, becoming number two to Lee Fowler as well being a member of Boro’s squad.

He scored seven goals in 29 appearances on loan at Oldham last season, before then being a free agent having come to the end of his Wrexham contract.

The versatile forward began his career at Accrington, and after breaking into the first team, he caught the eye of many with his performances which saw him earn a move to Scunthorpe United. After two-years with the Iron, he then went to Rochdale in 2012.

In his first permanent campaign at Spotland, he found the net on 16 occasions in 38 games in all competitions.

After a move to Blackpool, he went onto have a productive loan spell with Shrewsbury Town, scoring six in 32 games.

Then in 2015, Grant joined Fleetwood Town and became a regular in the three years with the Cod Army before moving onto Wrexham having another spell on loan at Accrington.

On the 10th of August 2020, it was announced that Grant had joined Oldham Athletic on a season-long loan. He scored on his debut for the League Two club in a 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Carlisle United on the 5th of September 2020.

His style of play: Grant is able to play as a striker, but has often been utilised as an attacking midfielder or winger. He is left footed, and known for his ability to shoot accurately from distance.

Manager Lee Fowler said: “Will be a really great addition firstly / and most important as a player it’s really big coup for the club. Secondly gives him a platform for his next transition in football. Will tell me straight and when I’m wrong 🙏”

@n_rhys: Great signing for Radcliffe. I’m honestly surprised that he didn’t sign permanently for an EFL club. It didn’t work out at Wrexham but he was obviously capable of playing at a higher level like in League 1 with Fleetwood. He’ll do very well in that League. Good luck to him. 👍👊⚽️
