QPR fan slammed after being caught trying to spit at Sunderland player

A QPR fan has been slammed on social media after being caught trying to spit at a Sunderland player, users on Twitter allege.

The moment came on the 32nd minute with Queens Park Rangers leading the game 1-0, Ballard going down to ground in the corner, nearest the home fans, with Sinclair Armstrong handed a yellow card.

Ballard is abused by the QPR support, with one man walking over with the player on the ground and aims his spit (which can be seen on the clip below) with Trai Hume giving stick back to the fans…

The game itself saw Jack Colback’s red card hit the hosts hard, allowing Jack Clarke, Dan Ballard and Abdoullah Ba to get on the scoresheet.

Kenneth Paal put the Hoops ahead on 12 minutes, then came Colback’s red card, with the Black Cats levelling after seven minutes of first-half injury time when Jack Clarke’s effort has been deflected in by QPR defender Steve Cook.

The hosts battled hard but second-half goals from Dan Ballard and Abdoullah Ba secured all three points for Tony Mowbray’s side to take them 7th in the Championship table.

Queens Park Rangers: Begovic, Kakay, Cook (Clarke-Salter 74’), Fox, Paal (Larkeche 68’), Colback, Field, Dozzell, Smyth (Dykes 60’), Chair (Willock 68’), Armstrong (Kolli 68’).

Subs not used: Walsh, Adomah, Dixon-Bonner, Duke-McKenna.

Sunderland AFC: Patterson, Ballard, O’Nien, Hume, Huggins (Roberts 45’), Neil, Ekwah (Pritchard 14’), Jobe (Hemir 83’), Ba, Clarke, Burstow (Aouchiche 61’)

Subs not used: Bishop, Seelt, Triantis, Rigg, Bennette.

“The red card changed the game – we were 1-0 up and in control,” QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth told www.qpr.co.uk.

“We had a plan which we worked on all week, but the red card changes everything against a team who were close to reaching the Premier League last year. They put five past Southampton last week.

“Their first goal was a real blow right on half-time. It’s a stroke of luck – Jack Clarke has a shot which Asmir Begovic had covered, but Steve Cook gets his head to it and the ball deflects into our goal.

“Those are the margins in football. It would have been a different game if we’d have gone in at half-time one-nil up.

Sunderland’s Tony Mowbray said in his post-match interview: “I think we started really well in the game, dominated, and then they scored. It wasn’t as if they were peppering our goal and giving us problems. We got the job done and I think we controlled the game and deserved it.

“QPR spend a lot of time out of possession – their average possession is 33 per cent – so we knew we were going to have lots of the ball.

“It was about how we broke down their defensive block and we found a way to do that, which was pleasing.

“They are a team that are driven to be competitive and we were trying to control the game.

“But I thought we were OK in the first half and it seemed a matter of time.”
