Preston “surprised and disappointed” as FA hand Ched Evans four match ban for incident

Preston North End say they are “surprised and disappointed” as the FA hand Ched Evans a four match ban for an off-the-ball incident.

The FA said the flare up in the 79th minute of Saturday’s defeat against Bristol City, which hadn’t been seen by referee Leigh Doughty, was deemed violent conduct.

Evans, who has scored seven goals in 25 appearances this season, denied the charge and the club weren’t happy with the hearing’s outcome.

He will now be unavailable for upcoming matches against Burnley, Luton Town, Hull City and Wigan Athletic.

Evans has now been issued a ban for four games instead of three because he was also shown a straight red card in the opening day draw at Wigan.

@bristolcityfc

that’s one way of stopping him 🤷

CLUB STATEMENT:

Preston North End striker Ched Evans has been suspended for four games after being charged by the FA following an incident in the 79th minute of the fixture at home to Bristol City.

The FA have released the following statement:

“Preston North End FC’s Chedwyn Evans has been suspended for four matches following a breach of FA Rule E1.1 that took place during their EFL Championship game against Bristol City FC on Saturday 4 February 2023.

The forward’s behaviour in the 79th minute of this fixture was not seen by the match officials at the time, but it was caught on video, and he subsequently denied a charge that it constitutes violent conduct.

An independent Regulatory Commission found this charge to be proven during a hearing and imposed his sanction.”

Ched will now miss PNE’s next four games against Burnley, Luton Town, Hull City and Wigan Athletic.

While the club respects the decision made by The FA, on this occasion the club is both surprised and disappointed by the outcome.

This is what social media users said with Preston “surprised and disappointed” as the FA hand Ched Evans a four match ban for the incident…

@joshmartin885: Deserved

@KingyCha: At least he can’t keep the manager in a job for the next four games.

@_yatesy: May aswell just get VAR if we are letting social media dictate when things are apparently being missed and punishing off the back of it, absolute joke

@ChrisNorthski: Interesting that some (including Ched Evans) think that throwing a player on the ground, then stamping on his head doesn’t deserve retrospective action, and that it didn’t happen, even though it was caught on video. Presumably 4th game suspension is for denying/ lying about truth

@bcfcEJ: Good now announce his prison sentence

@BrianCorney1: It beggars belief that the match officials didn’t see it at the time.

@adam_croston: But Bristol players were immaculately behaved. Worst ref of the season. Hopefully we see Cannon fire in Cheds absence.

@DanielFry23: Cunningham next please for a bad for his horrendous late studs down the back of Nahki’s calf

@DanielFry23: Couldn’t of happened to a nicer bloke ! It was ridiculous what he did on young Alex Scott !

@BCFC_Supporters: You love to see it

@severnside47: Well deserved, Cunningham should also be banned. What a horrible pair.

@RandomGasPlayer: FA have been busy today, shame they can’t spend the time better helping and training their officials

@AdamRob82681607: Absolutely fantastic news. Tremendous. Cheating c**t.

@dodgysocket: Fucking right aswell

@JoeAc96: Now for Greg Cuntingham to receive his #EFL

@warrenbeattie1: Massive blow that. Gutted

@ELJones95: Act like a thug, you get punished. So pleased to see he’s been dealt with. Jealously is a nasty trait ☺️☺️

@Garyrussbcfc1: Proof of yet another decision going against us in the game @EFL sort this shit out ASAP we’ve all had enough

@RSSport2: Big chance for Cannon/Delap/Parrott to step up now. Difficult to replace what Evans has brought to us in that role this season. #pnefc

@KyleWoodhouse8: Games gone soft 😡

@PeterHo21610461: ‘Surprised and disappointed’ sums up this club completely.

@kimramshead: We’re going to miss Ched big style the next four games!!!

@KeatonFisher19: Fuck off @efl … Horrible rats.

@GeorgeRichens1: Unbelievably deserved

@MintyPNE: Play Delap and Cannon as a top 2.

@bit_preston: You’ve gotta be joking. If you think THAT deserves a 4 match ban then Casemiro shouldn’t play for the rest of the season. Games gone soft. Guaranteed if that was anyone but Ched this wouldn’t happen #pnefc

@PR4PNE: Don’t know why people are gutted. It’s not like we get in any scoring positions anyway #pnefc
