Preston accused of issuing lifetime stadium ban to fan for tweet on Queen and Royal Family

Preston North End have been accused of issuing a lifetime stadium ban to a fan for a tweet was posted on the Queen and Royal Family.

@Faircop_ have seen a letter which had been sent to the fan by the Championship club on the 10th of September, issuing a ban from all grounds.

Faircop, who gives advice to fans on football policing, stewarding, club bans or referral to specialist solicitors, said: Looking forward to helping this individual challenge this life ban, finding out what terms and conditions he’s broken and why the police have been “advised accordingly” given there is no suggestion a criminal offence has been committed and a stadium ban is a civil matter.

The letter reads: “…confirm my phone call and email to you on Friday 9th September 2022, your comments on Twitter about the Queen and Royal Family were reported to the club and the board were informed.

“As a result of your comments Preston North End do not want to be associated with you, therefore you are receiving a life ban. Your season ticket and club account have been blocked from use.

“This ban includes ALL MATCHES AT DEEPDALE & RESERVE / FRIENDLY / YOUTH TEAM FIXTURES.

“The Police have been advised accordingly.

“This ban also relates to you entering all Preston North End F.C. property including the Shop, Ticket Office and from purchasing or obtaining any away match tickets from this Club.

“Should you enter Club property during this ban you will be ejected and other actions may well follow, such as court injunctions or involvement of the police.

“All football clubs where Preston have an away fixture will also be informed of the ban.”

@MossGordie, the fan who received the letter, talks of booing the anthem and makes reference to Shamrock Rovers, who celebrated the death of the Queen.

As mentioned, Preston are being accused of issuing a lifetime stadium ban to a fan for a tweet on the Queen and Royal Family, this is how it was reacted online…

@JoshMUFC951: That’s absolutely ridiculous! I bet the copper who wrote that up felt guilty himself!

@skiersteve23: Pretty sure the police had nothing to do with this, looks like it was PNE did this off their own back

@Adam_PVFC: 🥴🥴 wtf have I just read

@73Scoops: Why does it read like a football club is now intervening in what someone posts on Twitter. Did they work for PNE? Was it on the clubs own Twitter account? If no, then it’s nothing to do with them or the police, surely?

@jay_tics: @pnefc Give your heads a wobble, lads. Jesus

@efcalfie: @PNE_FC

@GrahamButterw12: WTF? A lifetime ban for comments on Twitter?

@will__sp: It’d be interesting to know what the offending tweet was, I’m guessing it was fairly tame? In terms of a “criminal offence” being committed, you only need to do much as hold up a blank sheet of paper to be arrested these days.

@johnbhoy70: This is disgraceful

@callummaguire96: Embarrassing @pnefc

@SamTyle39230050: Some sort of sick joke the world we live in

@BobbySMK2: Be interesting to see @pnefc elaborate and inform on what has happened. In addition I think @PNEPolice maybe could try and find the ‘broken law’ this may be for. Appears writing on twitter and having a differing of opinion is now exclusionary.

@shamrocknroll67: Obey with Preston North End’s views on the Royal family or we’ll ban you. Repulsive @pnefc

@JayMcKenna87: This is utterly mad!

@Lukeaaron32: Never seen something so pathetic. Club has no right to dictate anyones opinion or tweeting hypothetical questions… bang out of order.

@olibennett11: Ridsdale is such a crybaby whenever people have a different opinion to him. This is actually bonkers

@sufcbi1ly: easiest overturned case of her career that. My god

@dustyburners: That’s pathetic from @pnefc

@avfc4_alex: Utter, utter insanity. This country is absolutely finished.

@DP_1990_: LOL WHAT!? I mean, I’m firmly against bad words said about the Queen, but this is ridiculous 😂😂 you’ve had a shocker here @pnefc

@willatherton_: Sometimes this club makes me question a lot of things.

@LaurenSAFC92: Surely not? 😳😬

@_CJAV: This is actually insane what on earth

@Krispo1878: Good grief

@callumbarb01: that’s absolutely insane

@Denton_james: If I got that ban i’d have it overturned to prove a point and then would never ever go back to that club. That’s absolutely insane

@TimHickman1994: Can’t believe what I’ve just read 🥴

@adamgj03: We are a very normal country

@mikesm24: So basically it seems like @pnefc expect supporters to uphold their views on the monarchy or they’ll be banned. Pathetic… and absolutely nuts.

@NLFG: This is unbelievable from #pnefc

@Lambo1985: Absolutely batshit that a club would ban a fan for life for twitter comments. Should be a nice simple one for @FairCop_ to solve.

@jasonhawkins87: Yikes. Guess we all have to think and act the same now incase someone who doesn’t think the same gets offended.

@W12Rory: This is pure insanity

@DanielFranks85: Give over!!! 🤯

@callumsmithh_: Modern society is absolutely pathetic

@chrislee1878: Wow @pnefc that’s awful

@BRawcliffe96: Life time ban 🤢

@BenxxCCFC: Mental… worlds gone mad
