Pressure mounts on Rotherham boss Steve Evans after losing 1-0 away at Crawley

Pressure mounts on Rotherham United boss Steve Evans after losing 1-0 away at the manager’s former club Crawley Town on Saturday.

Will Swan’s 21st minute goal helped Crawley to all three points, with the defeat being the Millers to a fourth defeat in five League One games.

Evans, who was booked on the 80th minute, has urged to have his side pushing for the top six, of which his side are 9 points from.

Rotherham currently sit two points above the relegation zone, sitting 18th with 17 points from 16 games played, while Crawley move out the drop zone, sitting 20th with 16 points from 17 games.

Interviewer: “Steve how disappointed are you with that performance today?”

Steve: “You can imagine how disappointed we are. That’s why we’re so late to speak to you boys. Again, big moments. conditions made it farcical for both teams. They obviously have the stats that say they have the 2nd most position. I think you understand why. But the field of found it recently here, but I wanna found that they they dominate the ball, but big chances come. You know, we missed too many chances in the first half.

“I think Jonno has should do better with his header, and Esapa should do better when he’s thrown the left side of the box. And then to get a point when we’re struggling to get points right to the end, then that’s the biggest chance of the season. So, but we have to take the pain and and go back on the training ground.

“Separately from that. You know, we’re here with it. You know, we’re here with it, big players who are illness has been in the camp since Wednesday, Thursday, as you know.

“I mean, credit to five or six of the players, they’ve gone out to play. They’ve not played very well, but they’ve gone out to play. Not played very well, but they’ve gone out to play.”

Interviewer: “How what would you say to the Rotterdam United fans who are wondering where the spark comes? Because it’s 5 defeats in 6 now.”

Steve: “Well, the spark has to come from working hard on the training ground and getting our big players back available.

“You can see we had a couple back today. We had Jonno got best part of 60, 70 minutes in, but, you know, they’re limited in what they’ve been doing in the training group for obvious reasons because they’re fighting to overcome those injuries.

“But, you know, to come here without Mallik, we’re coming here without Liam, and without Sam Nombe. They’re huge players. Better team until this morning, sending, you know, Ben Hatton home. Reece James dropping to the bench because he’s ill.

“So from our point of view, we were in a bit of disarray this morning. So that does help this particular performance, but it’s not about this particular performance. It’s over a run of weeks where the performance levels are levels are nowhere they should be.”

Interviewer: “There’s a there’s a lot of anger and frustration from the terrorists. I believe you’ve probably heard some of it again today. What can you say to those fans and reassure them that better is potentially coming here?”

Steve: “Well, we’ve just got to work hard. I can’t assure the fans nothing other than we’re walking as hard as we possibly can.

“I said this morning, so there can be a problem privately to the staff when we’ve seen the owners in the camp. This is the last weekend of when you ever gonna play a football match, do you need the illness to spread? Liam Kelly’s been vomiting in the side verge, you know, and got COVID flu like symptoms.

“Sam has been off for 3 days. Several players didn’t train Thursday. Fans will say that’s an excuse, but that’s the real world. That’s the facts. You know, whether we are, whether we’ve won today or lost today, drawn today, we need to clear the camp out for a couple of days because there’s a bad virus in it.”

Interviewer: “Have the fans got cause to perhaps expect better though from this group overall?”

Steve: “Of course. We shouldn’t be where we are. We should be winning football matches. Reality is performances have not been a level where they need to be.

“Certain players performed really well today given the conditions, but 5 or 6 players looked just to me as if they’re going through the motions. And if you’re going through the motions, you know when they win football matches. This is a tough place to come, but we should be good enough to come here and deal with that.”

Interviewer: “Cameron Humphries didn’t last the match. What’s going on there?

Steve: “Did you see the goal? Cameron’s poor today. And I changed the system. We went to 4 from a 3. And I think to be fair, apart from one moment where we get caught a little lopsided in the second half, I know the conditions play a part of it. I thought Sean Raggett and Zak Jules were good together.”

Interviewer: “He’s well, presumably, he’s one of the players that’s going through the motions right now. How is it about getting them back on side, rocketing them? What how how do they get back to where they should be?”

Steve: “Well, it becomes a self thing, you know, Andy, self pride…”

Here’s how fans reacted as pressure mounts on Rotherham boss Steve Evans after losing 1-0 away at Crawley…

@MightyMillers20: Blah Blah Blah Blah 😴😴😴😴😴

@mrfrogmiller: Please, please, please fuck off!

@dantt___: So he says that “we can’t keep using these excuses” in the same interview where he used those excuses. Also, saying that “nobody will be hurting more than me” what about every single fan of this club? We all are. Absolute disgrace #rufc

@nigelmelia67: Was at the match yes we missed a couple of chances, Humphrey has been poor all season and needs to go so does Oddoffin. As for Evans this is probably the worst team I have seen him play. I have 1 question has he lost the dressing room?? As the players are not playing for him

@Tomoose24RUFC: Time to go for me

@RufcKris: If this club has anything about them. You get rid of the management staff. Bring in someone with a 3 year plan the first keeping us up. Clear the decks in Jan and start rebuilding with young hungry players. Experience route hasn’t worked for the last 2 years and it’s costly

@Danny260214: Hope people realise we are in a genuine relegation battle

@itsmethatbiglad: Leave Evans in Crawley.

@__IrufcI__: Get Humphreys Bramall and Odoffin so far away from this squad, Stewart is sending us to league two and that will have been Evans’ last game. Club is in free fall no matter what happens from here. McGuckin and MacDonald only players to come out of that with any credit 👍🏼

@HarryRUFC1: Tony Stewart time to go

@GazzaWozza: If we were going to change anything it should have been before break and got Ainsworth in. Embarrassing and the Odoffin pass at the end sums it up as a whole. Only really Jules and probably MacDonald (due to a couple of good deliveries) that deserve any credit and I’m reaching 😂

@vixthemiller: What opportunities? I was there and only saw one.

@HodgkissBo76665: Opportunities?

@_Reesiie: Keep up the good work Steve, we love you.

@andrew_mchale1: We were awful. Crawley were better than us all over the pitch, every department

@LJMUK83: To clarify, you were playing against a Crawley team missing at least 5 first team players, no excuses acceptable SE. that team did not look like it was fighting for you or the fans

@dustymiler: Time to go

@Callum__RUFC: I watched 60 minutes Mr Manager and i couldn’t remember any threatening moments apart from the first 2-3 minutes

@strangy83: We left at half time Mr Evans not because we had to but because it was worse than Barnsley. Time to pack up and go old boy. Ain’t cutting it. Please tell me about the midfield? As it was not there..

@PaulEdw23304357: Stopped listening. Crawley deserved more

@BenPanko1990: What opportunities

@hyrum_rufc: Same old same old

@marksmanquotes_: What’s happening to my club

@_rufcoliver: you can assure the fans your working as hard as you can? how did we lose then?

@Harrya2508Harry: Steve for God’s sake. Excuses about top players missing all the time. Its a squad all of the squad should be capable of stepping up. Same old excuses.

@leeSleight2: what’s the odds his next statement will be, even pep at man city have just lost 5 and look at their quality 🤔🤔
