Premier League clubs are considering an app to let fans send cheers and jeers to stadiums from the comfort of their own home.
Now that the Bundesliga has been given the green light, could ‘Project Restart’ just about get the go ahead by the government?
Despite talks that lockdown measures could be relaxed in the near future, EPL games will be played behind closed doors and whilst there are also talks of having games at neutral venues, the latter decision which is causing a divide amongst teams.
The Daily Mail reports that three clubs, Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal are holding talks with the German technology company behind the app, which has four types of noise sounds for supporters to play at the empty stadiums, as a way of creating atmosphere.
The myapplause app has already been tested by two Bundesliga clubs and could be used when football returns in Germany later this month.
Fans using the app would be given four options; cheer, clap, sing and whistle/jeer, which would then be played out visually immediately in the stadium.
The app’s developer have claimed that it can support up to one million fans with a delay of transmitting the sound in a tenth of a second.
Sky are also considering using CGI crowds when games are shown live on television, something which has been done before when fans have sworn our shouted “Sky TV is fucking shit”.
The myapplause app will be offered to Premier League clubs for free and they could reportedly receive a slice of revenue in the future. The slight down floor to it is that fans would be charged at least £1 to download the app.
