Pre-season friendly sees three red cards after players of both teams fight

A non league pre-season friendly sees three red cards after players of both teams got caught up in a fight on Tuesday night.

Marine of the Northern Premier League Division One West romped to a 5-1 victory against North West Counties League Division One North side South Liverpool.

However it was marred on the 77th minute after trouble flared up causing players having to be separated but the cards were dished out.

A crowd was in attendance following what has been a long struggle of a pandemic for many clubs at this level of the English football pyramid.

The admission fee was set at £3, and fans certainly got their monies worth when it comes to the amount of goals and even the added fight between footballers.

The Mariners dominated possession in the first half, Reilly getting his first goal for the club after an excellent cross from Barrigan on the 13th minute.

However shortly after that, Marine failed to defend the free kick and after Reilly won the first header the ball went high and was headed into the back of Passant’s net. 1-1 it was.

That was as good as it got for South Liverpool, as another 10 minutes later saw Marine go ahead. A mistake from the South Liverpool goalkeeper, who ran out of goal and failed to clear the ball. Cummins then loops the ball into the empty goal.

Marine got a third just before half time, Howarth played a fantastic ball over the top and Cummins put it past the South Liverpool goalkeeper for his second, and then made it 4-1, completing a hat-trick a minute into the second half.

On the 72nd minute, Watkinson played Wignall in and he calmly put the ball into the bottom corner, making it 5-1 to Marine.

Then came the clash of players with Marine tweeting: “Three red card’s one for Marine and two for South Liverpool. After a fight breaks out!”

Fans gave their reaction as the pre-season friendly sees three red cards after players of both teams fight…

@AllertonU10: Cracking game to be fair. Young lad who got red card was my cousin, harsh red for all in my opinion but good learning curve for him. Alot of potential, even though he was only on the pitch about 15 mins 🙃. Very competitive first half, 2nd half Marine ran away with it. 👍

@APATBillShep: Didn’t realise 3 got red. The young Marine lad wasn’t happy. He pushed me first he said to us as he went past. Then said “Grown 30 year old men kicking kids.” Perils of being a good young player in Open Age footy.

@TheRealWillo20: Any results on the fights?
