Prayers sent to Shrewsbury player rushed to hospital after 24th minute substitution

Prayers have been sent to Shrewsbury Town player Ryan Bowman who was rushed to hospital after his 24th minute substitution.

The 29 year old centre-forward came off 15 minutes before half time and appeared to be holding his chest and stomach area, leaving staff concerned.

Boss Steve Cotterill revealed afterwards he was taken to a local hospital, with help of Ipswich Town medical staff, for checks on the issue.

Cotterill then revealed afterwards that Bowman’s heart rate was as high as 250bpm and that he felt heart palpitations.

The manager is hoping for more of an update on Saturday evening, however no further reports have emerged, causing more concern.

Manager Steve Cotterill said: “We’re nowhere near as concerned about our league position as we are about Ryan.

“The more worrying one will be Ryan Bowman. Where he is with his health right now we don’t quite now, he’s at hospital now.

“He had a huge heart rate problem, he has palpitations, I don’t quite know what that’s about. When I’ve finished with you guys I just hope everything is OK with Ryan.”

Bowman joined League One side Shrewsbury Town on a two-year deal earlier this summer, with the option of a further year.

He’s previously play for the likes of Carlisle United, Workington, Darlington, Hereford United, York City, Torquay United, Gateshead, Motherwell and Exeter City

Saturday’s game saw Bonne headed in a second-half clincher to seal the win in front of the 19,256 strong crowd – but boss Paul Cook was far from happy with what he witnessed.

Cook said: “The first 23 minutes was probably as good as I’ve seen us play this season but we were sloppy after that.

“You’d expect us to go on and win two or three-nil but instead we go in at half-time and the game’s in the balance.

“As a manager I want to enjoy watching the team play and today I’m back to not enjoying it.”

The Tractorboys started brightly and deservedly went in front midway through the first half through Conor Chaplin.

However, they took their foot off the gas and were punished five minutes later when Shaun Whalley netted his first goal of the season with a terrific 20-yard shot.

Salop missed a superb opportunity to take the lead before the break but Bowman lifted his shot yards over from just six yards.

But QPR loanee Bonne decided it with a terrific header 10 minutes after the interval to take his tally for the season to nine – in just eight starts.

On Sunday morning, just before 10am, an update was issued by the player himself, and thankfully it sounds more reassuring.

@ryan_bowman12 wrote via his Twitter account: “Thank you for all the messages & support they do mean a lot, feeling better this morning just waiting for further tests… a special thanks to the medical staff from @shrewsweb & @IpswichTown and also the staff at the Ipswich Hospital ❤️”
