Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett is to temporarily step down from his role as manager due to health reasons, according to reports.

Jackett is expected to stand aside later this week and the club are poised to make an official announcement later today after BBC journalist Chris Wise first revealed the news.

The 59-year-old ex-Swansea City and Wolves boss took over at Portsmouth in 2017 and has been working to lead the club out of League One and into the Championship.

Portsmouth currently sit in 4th place in the League One table and just one point off the second automatic promotion place, with two games in hand on Hull City in second and one in hand of league leaders Lincoln.

Jackett’s men had been set to face Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road at the weekend, however the match ended up being postponed.

@chriswisey wrote: “I understand Kenny Jackett will be temporarily stepping away from his role as Portsmouth manager later this week because of health reasons. Not known how long for at this stage. Official announcement expected later today. Wishing him an extremely speedy recovery. #Pompey”

CLUB STATEMENT:

Portsmouth Football Club can advise that, with effect from this Thursday (February 18), Kenny Jackett will not be in attendance at matches or training sessions following a medical procedure that will require a short period of rest and recuperation.

Assistant manager Joe Gallen will operate in a caretaker capacity during this time and will be assisted by first team coach Jake Wigley.

Kenny will remain in constant contact with them both, while also able to speak to the players via video link before and after games, as well as at half-time.

We wish Kenny a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back shortly.
