Port Vale manager Jon Brady faces the noise from fans angered after 3-0 defeat to Mansfield

Port Vale manager Jon Brady faces the noise from fans, who were left angered after a 3-0 defeat to Mansfield on Saturday afternoon.

His side dominated in the first half but failed to find the net, one chance came back off the woodwork, and another was kept out by keeper Liam Roberts.

After the break, Port Vale crumbled, with half-time sub Oliver Irow putting Mansfield ahead on his senior debut, tapping home the rebound on 55 minutes.

Shortly after, Will Evans doubled the hosts’ lead, getting on a loose ball after another Amos save from Oates.

Then on 67 minutes, Irow curled in to make it 3-0. Three goals in 12 second-half minutes to give Mansfield their fifth straight win.

The result leaves Mansfield sitting 10th in League One with 35 points from 24 games played, and 4 points from the playoff places. Port Vale remain bottom with 18 points from 24 games played, 11 points from safety.

After the game, he could be heard saying: “Listen. Listen. Can I tell you? We battered them, right? But second half, we lost too many duels. Yeah. Not good enough. Get it right.”

Port Vale manager Jon Brady when asked by BBC Radio Stoke if he felt the 3-0 score line was harsh: “No. We don’t finish our chances and we should. No, because we didn’t defend those moments well enough. We didn’t get we weren’t as aggressive as we were in the first-half I watched back the three goals and we need to tighten up. That’s certainly not good enough from us.”

On what the team did wrong in the second-half: “Covering support first and foremost. We allowed runners to come off us. We need to make sure we tighten that up. We need to tighten up on transition and on those moments as well.”

On the side’s attacking threat?: “I was in the first-half not in the second-half as we didn’t have an effort on target. We had enough efforts to score in the first-half definitely.”

On changing attitude: “We’ve got to change the mentality of the group. I want us to look like even when we go one-nil down I want it to look like us. It’s almost we try too hard. They go into positions where they shouldn’t be and we lose our shape. We’ve got to process, work through it and we’ll tighten that up.”

On one stat that stood out for him: “Seventy percent of duels won in the first-half we were down to thirty percent in the second-half. That’s one stat which is huge for me. I know how to change it.”

Mansfield boss Nigel Clough said: “To win 3-0 was probably a little undeserved, but there have been plenty of times this season we have not got what we deserved, and I think we are still a few in credit.

“It was tough going. I thought first half we were as poor as we’ve been for some time. Port Vale were very good indeed. The fact they’re bottom of the league and you look at the quality they played with today just goes to exhibit the strength of the league.

“Vale should’ve been ahead by a couple of goals, and I thought (Mansfield goalkeeper) Liam Roberts was the only reason we were still in the game at half-time.

“The most important thing was getting in at half-time 0-0. We could’ve been 2-0 down easily. The goalkeeper has kept us in the game, and then it was about reorganising, changing formation, getting fresh legs on and going from there.”

Clough added: “It took a bit of magic from Rhys Oates to get us that first goal. When you are not playing well, you need someone to provide you with a spark.

“I thought we needed a spark. We needed some energy.

“Oliver (Irow) has shown his quality and composure in training so we thought why not give him a little run, though we never expected him to score twice. His second goal was absolutely outstanding. No goalkeeper in the world would save that.

“I’ve been very impressed with his maturity and composure and he just needed to show it on the pitch.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Port Vale manager Jon Brady faces the noise from fans angered after a 3-0 defeat to Mansfield…

@GarethW21526639: Give the guy a chance. Shame on the guy filming and the big mouth giving it large. What a bunch of Muppets.

@murphystanacc: Battered us but they had 1 shot on target btw 44

@TristanWil88128: Fair play to Brady for doing this 👏 Moore would’ve never done this fucking love Brady already #pvfc

@alfiebean11: Why are they fucking moaning at him already? He’s inherited this squad you conna polish a turd some vale fans are proper bellends give the guy a chance it’s not rocket science

@Alfie14_: He’s the man for us 100% #pvfc

@BenjaminGrocott: Can batter who you want, Goals win games we didn’t test the keeper and we don’t score goals. Also helps if you’ve got someone who isn’t looking in 2 directions at once in nets too, but hey at least he can kick a ball lads that’s all that matters isn’t it 🥴

@WJStanway13: whose that knobhead talking over him. Let the man speak, he doesn’t have to talk to the fans so don’t give him shit when he does #pvfc

@Jimbokav1971: I really like Jon Brady, but he’s only just gone in there. What are they expecting? Miracles? They’re bottom for a reason. Even if he’s successful, it’s not gonna happen overnight.

@StandingAlone77: 1 league game in to his tenure and he’s having to go over and calm the fans. Hilarious.

@KPVFC10: Should’ve slapped that knob talking over him, my gaffer. Good on him

@murphystanacc: Thing is. You’re aren’t really that shit. Just a few heads dropped as soon as you conceded. There’s worse clubs in l1, just need to get rid of the deadweight
