Port Vale appoint new manager until the end of the season

Port Vale have this afternoon confirmed the appointment of John Askey as their new first team manager until the end of the season.

The former Macclesfield Town and Shrewsbury Town boss replaces Neil Aspin who last month stepped down from his role after he won just once in 12 games in all competitions.

Port Vale Chief Executive Colin Garlick says: “We wish John and Dave all the very best as they take up their new positions with the club. My staff and I will do all we can to support them and I ask all Valiants to do the same.

“I’d also like thank Danny Pugh, Ronnie Sinclair and Michael Tonge for stepping in last week and working in a helpful and professional manner.”

The Valiants currently sit 18th in the League Two table, just six points ahead of the drop.
