Police confirm security guard suffered injury to face as fans fight after Melksham v Thatcham

Wiltshere Police confirm a security guard had suffered an injury to his face as fans decided to fight after Melksham v Thatcham.

A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, and gone on to get nearly a million views, taking place after the match on Saturday, November 16th.

529 fans turned out to watch Melksham win 4-0 at home Thatcham Town, Sam Hendy, Ralph Graham, Jake Brown and Jake Andrews getting on the scoresheet.

The result sees Melksham sitting 5th in the Southern League – South Division with 25 points from 13 games played, while Thatcham are 21st with 12 points from same amount of games played.

A spokesperson from Wiltshire Police said, per Reading Chronicle, that a security guard had suffered an injury to his face during the fight.

The representative from Wiltshire Police said: “Officers responded to reports of a disorder outside Melksham Football and Rugby club just after 5pm on Saturday.

“A security guard, a man in his 30s, suffered from a facial injury while trying to break up the fight.

“If anyone saw what happened, or has information that could help with our enquiries, please contact us on 101 quoting reference number 54240117708.”

Thatcham manager Yashwa Romeo said on the game, per Newbury Today: “In reality 4-0 doesn’t reflect the game,” Romeo said.

“It was a very even game until they scored, and we had chances that we should have scored before they did.

“At the minute, we’re not scoring and other teams are.

“They’re a very direct team and we dealt with that. We’ve improved in getting behind teams, creating chances and spaces.

“We just switched off for five minutes twice. You get punished for it.

“It wasn’t a disappointing performance, but it was a disappointing result.

“There’s not much more I can ask from them, we go again, the next three games are massive for us and we need to pick up points from them.”

Here’s how Twitter users reacted as police confirm security guard suffered an injury to his face as fans fight after Melksham v Thatcham…

@wheeler182: Left at half time mate could see it was going to kick off and we were already 3-0 up

@heyit5sam: Step 4 of non league. Enjoy a pint and grow up 😂

@DJHustler1985: This was like the Jake Paul Vs Tyson fight.

@Jimmer211993: What is it with Melksham and trouble at their ground? 🤷‍♂️

@CAGBCFC: Was there the other day and a lot of people turned up to this with no intention of watching the football and to be abusive to anyone who looked in their direction. Can’t get my head around why but nothing surprises me anymore really

@GazJervis: Into em lads 🤣

@Melkshamboy59: And yet it’s normally the most friendly and wonderful place to watch a game of football. Sad to see.

@BenBoardma97122: Officiated here several times and never saw anything like this. What a shame this happened for a great club.

@BinnyPiper: Bertie Basset’s football factory

@OwenArm94282975: On course to winning the FA Vase back in 2018, we played them a few rounds away from Wembley, won 0-1 in the 90+ min and all started from there

@OwenArm94282975: Most weren’t actual thatcham fans tbh, only bout 5% were. Just people who rarely go and have had too much to drink and let it get to them. I avoided going yesterday as could sense something was gonna happen, went elsewhere instead & what also done it was the vase win and it’s been like that ever since

@GlennHa23611013: Lay off the Charlie kids 🫵

@KZYmedia: This was not on my bingo card

@TheSheldonEnd: A normal day down the A350…

@stretch1971: Flocks giving it large 😂😂

@NathanC02244188: Matey putting his hood up and doing nothing 😂

@TQ_Pilgrim: Kurt and Kerry doing some windmilling.

@jerrastfc: Swindon v Reading

@OwenArm94282975: That’s what happens when you get people that don’t go often and get far too drunk

@TonyShots71: The A4 derby 👊🏻

@MillieWiller: Did the liquorice all sort land a punch?

@jyatesbwfc2810: Grown men fighting over 22 blokes who kick a ball around a field part time

@OwenArm94282975: All fuelled by supposed ‘supporters’ on the 🍻🍻 looking for trouble and getting it. Get our away attendance at any other game and it’ll be pittance

@Luffers85: Stripey jumper has swung about 5 air shots. 🤣

@MagpieKit: Lad in black and white threw 100 punches and landed zero 😂

@KitCollector050: Sometimes you see fights from clubs you never heard about. Tbh these 2 clubs sound like they are made up. Melksham and Thatcham.

markdean1205: 😂 steward in the yellow with mask calmly walking away with hands in pockets

@foreverayellow: sounds as though some fans from swindon and reading were at the game, so was bound to be trouble
