There were unsavoury scenes during a League Two match at the weekend as two very late goals saw Crewe Alexandra miss out on three points.
Their opponents Macclesfield Town fought back not one, not twice, but three times when Reece Cole hit home his side’s third equaliser of the game on the 97th minute – cancelling out George Ray’s goal which looked to have snatched victory for Crewe.
Tempers boiled over however when some of the 1,500 travelling fans invaded the pitch and threw plastic bottles after a Silkmen fan celebrated his side making it 3-3.

Macclesfield Town released a club statement: “Further to last Saturday’s Cheshire derby with Crewe Alexandra here at the Moss Rose, Macclesfield Town are launching a full investigation surrounding the pitch encroachments which occurred after Reece Cole’s equalising goal.
“Entering the field of play is something which is taken very seriously by the club and we will be thoroughly analysing CCTV footage of the incident, before acting accordingly.
“Supporter safety is paramount to us and anyone found to be jeopardising this by entering the pitch will be dealt with in line with the club’s disciplinary policy.
“We would also like to re-iterate the fact that flares and pyrotechnics have no place at the Moss Rose.
“As such, we will be liaising with our colleagues at Crewe Alexandra to identify those who put everyone’s safety in danger by throwing these onto the pitch during Saturday afternoon’s encounter.”
Football fans took to Twitter after watching the video of the scenes spilling over, with many mocking the way some pitch invaders were running – take a look at what was said on the next page.
