Pitch invader gets rugby-tackled by Coventry steward as Reading player tries to get involved

A pitch invader gets rugby-tackled by a Coventry City steward as a Reading player tries to get himself involved in the incident.

@spud8550 thought Andy Yiadom should have had a second yellow card for getting involved with a pitch invader while a number of stewards were trying to remove him during stoppage time.

Some fans defended the footballer however after the security staff seemed to struggle handing the situation, take a look at the footage below…

The Sky Blues beat relegation-threatened Reading to climb to fifth in the Championship, a huge boost to the playoff hopes.

Gustavo Hamer helped set up Matt Godden on 36 minutes to break the deadlock, before going on to score the match winner on 54 minutes, just three minutes after Lucas Joao had levelled for the Royals.

The result means that Coventry have extended their unbeaten run to five matches, keeping Reading in the relegation zones in 22nd place, and winless in 11 games.

First, the Royals play at the bottom-placed Wigan Athletic, then they host Neil Warnock’s Huddersfield Town on the final day. Oft.

Mark Robins’ relentless Coventry will play host Birmingham City, their former landlords, next weekend, before finishing the season on Monday in Middlesbrough.

Coventry’s Mark Robins: “I think others would swap results with us today. At this stage of the season, you’ve got to win.

“Today was must-win, next week (against Birmingham) will be a must-win, and the one after that at Middlesbrough will be a must-win, no doubt.

“There are other teams there that have still got an advantage, but we’re in there with a shout, which is brilliant going into the last home game of the season.

“It’s all to play for, recovery is very important and we’ll wrap them up in cotton wool.

“I think in the first half we played pretty well, we moved the ball, we created chances, we should have been ahead before we were.

“We kept playing, kept creating chances, Viktor (Gyokeres) hit the post before half-time and it should have been more – he’s had a few chances today where he’s gone through and had too much time to think about it.”

Reading interim boss Noel Hunt: “We were the better side in the second half. They got a couple of breakaways because we’re trying to get back into the game.

“But if we stay on that page of front-foot football, it gives us a good chance for next week.”

On a pitch invader who came on in stoppage time: “Some idiot came on to the pitch and football doesn’t want to see it, really.

“If you want to get on the pitch, work hard every day like these boys do, put their bodies on the line and make yourself a career. Otherwise stay in the stand and clap and cheer.

“I don’t understand how you can have 10 stewards with one man and they can’t get him off the pitch – it was absolutely pathetic to be honest.

This is what social media users said as a pitch invader gets rugby-tackled by a Coventry steward as a Reading player tries to get involved…

@JordanF_CCFC: Sign the steward up @Jaguars

@JonHyde1871: Highlight of my afternoon!

@ftblalfie5: The amount of fuss he was causing too, poor stewards were being kicked by him

@lee_beckett: Give him a life time ban the knob head

@TheSmorginator: Solid tackle. Might be a tad high.

@nathan_p1995: What a fuckin knobhead! Deserves all the stick he gets

@TomUpto94934917: That pitch invader today, what a knob! #PUSB

@jxshfxrrell: was sat near us in first half was off his head i think

@BS11SkyBlues: Absolute fucking bell end…

@Isaac_1871: hope they dont pay the stewards for that, 7 of them couldn’t do the job of 2

@adamlwba: why is there ALWAYS pitch invaders at the CBS??

@Soley1904: Great cover tackle 10/10

@FearlessChaewon: Got a bit of NFL with our football today

@leadballoon74: Weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. Opposition player thinking our stewards whilst trying to handle a coked up prick were deliberately time wasting by not going off the pitch via the shortest route!

@RSheehan_RDG: This was probably the most entertaining part of the game this afternoon. #readingfc

@DannyBR01: Start digging at him on the floor.

@BlondiieMama: Pitch invader at the @CBSArena, gamely chased and rugby-tackled to the ground by an earnest @Coventry_City security officer. Pitch invader probably earned himself an assault charge in addition to the crowd chanting W****R at him. Why do people do this? 🤷‍♀️

@AdamHumphries96: Also, congratulations to Coventry for the absolute worst stewarding performance of all time. Sit in your seat brigade jobsworths before the game and then couldn’t do their one job of getting a pitch invader off.
