Sheffield Wednesday’s Pierce Charles receives online racist abuse, and Leicester fans vent frustration with their players after a 1-1 draw.
Sheffield Wednesday, who are already relegated and on minus points, took the lead early through Jerry Yates, but just as they thought they were going to get their first home league win of the season, Leicester’s Jordan Ayew equalised on the 84th minute.
Despite the draw, it keeps Leicester just one point above the relegation zone, with five games remaining, with Oxford, Portsmouth, West Brom, Blackburn also getting a draw, none of them unable to puller clearer away from the drop zone.
Leicester players went over to applaud the travelling support, but were met with boos and chants of “you’re not fit to wear the shirt”. Ayew made his way down the tunnel instead of heading over.
There was also some criticism towards the Leicester players who decided to snub young fans who reached for a high five when the squad arrived at the ground before the game. The majority did so, one even receiving a hug.
Dean Saunders reacted to the possibility of Leicester being relegated into League One.
Sadly, the game was also marred after Sheffield Wednesday issued a strong statement after one of their players, Pierce Charles, sadly received racist abuse messages on social media, after his goalkeeping heroics.

Pierce won’t let it bother him too much, he won’t let a brilliant Easter for the Charles family ruined by a dickhead with a keyboard….
He’ll also have the sort of future that some idiot with letters and numbers for a username can only dream of: https://t.co/vwZ8QrApkm #SWFC pic.twitter.com/yfk7h90o1r

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY STATEMENT:
Sheffield Wednesday are aware of disgraceful and completely unacceptable racist messages directed towards one of our players on social media following Monday’s game against Leicester.
The club condemn in the strongest tone any form of racism or discrimination and will work side by side with the relevant authorities to bring the offenders to justice.
It is not the first time we find ourselves in this position. It is deplorable on every level.
“Our zero tolerance stance remains steadfast and unequivocal. Racism is cowardly. It has no place in society.
“We stand together and only together can we stamp it out.”
Football careers are incredibly short.
Ten years from retirement, kids won’t know who you are and what you achieved.
That will work out for some of these big time Charlies – drawing with the Champ’s worst side and on course for relegation to League One. pic.twitter.com/c42dABbJiH

Sheffield Wednesday’s Henrik Pederson told BBC Radio Sheffield:
“He [Pierce Charles] is a fantastic goalkeeper. Normally we speak about Pierce being top with his feet, today how also showed how mentally strong he is and how strong he is defensively. Top performance from him.
“I think there’s nobody that has doubt for his potential. He has a big, big future, that’s why we are really, really proud and really happy that he’s a part of Sheffield Wednesday. We will do everything we can to keep him for the future.”
Leicester City boss Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Leicester:
“We knew it was a game we had to win. Other results mean we are in no different a position in some ways but it’s not about that, it’s about taking your opportunities.
“We have had three games now where overall we have created lots and lots of chances, lots and lots of efforts at goal, had lots and lots of the ball.
“I don’t think we have necessarily had games where structurally, tactically, we have had problems. It’s just been we need the quality in those final moments. We keep inviting teams to have a lead then basically sit in on that lead. It means you have got to show that extra quality to open it up.
“It’s quite ridiculous [to concede early]. That’s what we warned against. That means we have got to score two goals, the problem is we haven’t done that many times this season.”
Pierce Charles said to Sheffield Wednesday’s YouTube channel: “I am really pleased [with my contribution]. It was different to how I’d usually play; usually it’s mainly distribution and all that stuff.
“But to show people that I can make saves as well, in important moments as well, I’m proud of it.”
When asked to identify his best saves, he replied: “Probably the double save, or maybe the one at the end [Ayew’s header] in the top right, maybe.”
On being praised by his teammates: “That, again, helps more than anyone thinks, when your teammates back you and the staff as well. That gives you maximum confidence.”
Here’s the social media reaction after Pierce Charles receives online racist abuse; while Leicester fans vent frustration with their players…
ON RACIST ABUSE TOWARDS CHARLES:
@RossSiddons: Name and shame them. There’s no denying it, the club has had a real problem recently with this and similar behaviour. There has been a positive vibe around the club this week and it sets things back by some keyboard warrior c***. No place for it #swfc
@charlieeswfc: Sick to death of this – a positive result and great atmosphere, once again overshadowed by a fucking moron. Find them and fucking throw the book at them. #swfc
@added_on_time: It’s diabolical, shameful, idiotic and disgraceful on every level. Person should be named and shamed and be publicly made an example of. The amount of scrotes who hide behind social media or think because it’s football it seems to be OK to discriminate. Just the lowest scum
@CrazyKellyMarie: This statement to me doesn’t indicate it’s a ‘fan’ of ours. It states it’s aware of messages being directed to one of our players. No way would a true owls fan do this. A faceless random Instagram account could be anyone. If it is an owl, name & shame 🤬 #swfc
@harvey_walters_: absolutely sick to death of this, the fact this shit still happens regularly in 2026 is unbelievable . thoughts with the player, hopefully whichever c*** it is this time dragging the fanbase’s rep down is found and dealt with – shouldn’t be near hillsborough ever again.
@Rich_Ironside: Who actually thinks this ok in this day and age?! Idiots. Get em found and banned / charged.
@lukehambli56279: I’ve just seen the comments that’s not a swfc fan who’s worth those comments surely. What fan watched that performance and then thought they would racially abuse him. Faceless account with 0 followers and 0 posts. More like someone who lost a bet because of his performance
ON LEICESTER:
@lcfctommo_: an already relegated team showing more fight and desire than us, completely fucking embarrassing, we deserve to go down, shambles. fuck off.
@OutaContextlcfc: We are genuinely getting relegated, fuck these players genuinely fuck them
@RFox55_: Pierce Charles is undeniably a PL standard goalkeeper but this is a joke. If we can’t beat SW what chance do we have of staying up? Pathetic players and club, tennis balls needed Saturday.
@Waattie: Every single week you think it won’t get any worse and yous deliver the same fucking crap every week, Rudkin, Top, everyone in the squad, just fuck off. You’ll go down as the weakest team in Leicester’s history, not an ounce of fucks given out of any of you. Get this season over
@DarkGla1ve88: Such a disappointment. Yeah OK we dominated the second half and with a bit more luck could have won by several goals, and that their goalkeeper was having the game of his life, but it’s simple: don’t score goals, you don’t win games. The defence never helps either.
@Birdiex94x: I mean their keeper pulled off some great saves but we simply can’t keep having these games where we create these chances but don’t take them. Still in our hands and 5 points in a row away from home is better than it was. Lucky that nobody else won today
@2ndbone: Slept walked into another relegation, there simply has to be significant change at this club, Top and his executive leadership group are only leading us into the next administration next season, will we ever recover ?

Leicester are a fucking disaster.
They become just the 6th side to fail to beat Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough this season.
Let’s not even mention the budget. pic.twitter.com/Erlt4XoOdf
