Peterborough director will remain at club despite resigning after accepting betting charge

It has been revealed that Peterborough United director Barry Fry is to remain at the club following reports from Sky Sports saying that he has resigned.

Fry is currently suspended from football activity for four months, three months of which are suspended for a period of two years after he accepted a charge for misconduct in relation to betting during the 2017/18 season in breach of FA Rule E8.

He was fined £35,000 for betting on Jack Marriott to finish top scorer in League One last season and the Posh to win promotion.

Sky Sports stated in their article that “The ‘termination of appointment’ notice was posted on the Companies House website on Friday, two days after the FA released the written reasons for the 73-year-old’s punishment.”

Peterborough Telegraph then reported that he would be resuming his role at the club once his ban finishes on the 1st of March.

A club spokesman said: “People have been getting their knickers in a twist. Barry can’t act as a club director while he is banned from football. He has not left the club.”

Peterborough United’s chairman Darragh MacAnthony added: “We will be delighted to have Barry back.”

It was back in August 2014 that the Football Association made it illegal for players and manager to officials and staff in football to bet on all matches.

Some Posh fans took to Twitter to react happily when reading that Fry had resigned from the club, however others made it clear to them that he was in fact coming back to the role – take a look at what they had to say on the next page.
