Peterborough and Morecambe confirm managerial appointments in what has been a crazy last few weeks of incomings and departures.
Championship strugglers Peterborough United have reappointed Grant McCann as manager on a two-and-a-half-year dear after he was axed by the new owners of Hull City in late January.
Meanwhile, League One strugglers Morecambe have reappointed Derek Adams as manager, less than nine months after he left the club to join Bradford City – who have just brought in Mark Hughes.
🔵 We are delighted to confirm Grant McCann as the club’s new first team manager.
Grant will be assisted by Cliff Byrne, a former team-mate at Scunthorpe United and long-term number two of the Northern Irishman.#pufc

PETERBOROUGH STATEMENT:
The football club can confirm that Grant McCann has been appointed as manager.
Peterborough United are delighted to confirm that Grant McCann has been appointed as the club’s new first team manager with the Northern Irishman penning a two-and-half year contract at the Weston Homes Stadium.
Following the resignation of Darren Ferguson on Sunday, the club have moved quickly to secure the services of McCann, who departed Hull City earlier this month despite three successive victories in Sky Bet Championship action against Blackburn Rovers, AFC Bournemouth and Swansea City with all three coming with clean sheets.
Prior to his departure, McCann had led the Tigers to seven wins from 12 matches with just three defeats in that sequence of results. McCann will be assisted at Posh by Cliff Byrne, a former team-mate at Scunthorpe United and long-term number two of the 41-year-old.
McCann cut his teeth in management at the Weston Homes Stadium before leading Doncaster Rovers into the League One play-offs and then masterminding a league title for Hull, their first in 55 years.
A press conference will be held at the Weston Homes Stadium will be held at 4pm on Thursday with co-owners Jason Neale and Stewart Thompson, and the new management team.
Tickets for McCann’s first game in charge on Saturday against Hull City are available now at www.theposhtickets.com and via the Weston Homes Stadium Box Office.

Morecambe Football Club is delighted to announce the return of Derek Adams as our new first-team manager on an initial deal until June 2023 with an option to extend.
Adams, who is no stranger to the Club, led the Shrimps to promotion to Sky Bet League One, seeing off Newport County in dramatic fashion in the 2020/21 League Two Play-Off Final at Wembley.
The 46-year-old has a wealth of experience both as a player and a manager, winning numerous personal accolades in his native Scotland.
During his time in England, Adams led Plymouth Argyle to promotion into League One at the end of the 2016/17 campaign, as his Pilgrims side finished second, bouncing back in impressive style after losing to AFC Wimbledon in the Play-Off Final, the previous year.
He would then go onto help them achieve a seventh-place finish the following season before leaving Home Park in April 2019.
Adams’ next venture saw him replace popular and long-serving Morecambe boss Jim Bentley. Having taken over the Club bottom of the EFL, he successfully guided us to safety in the 2019/20 season. In his first full campaign at the Mazuma Stadium, he guided the Shrimps to the Play-Offs, only missing out on automatic promotion by one point.
On arguably the finest day in the Club’s history, Carlos Mendes Gomes’ 107th minute penalty was enough to secure the Shrimps’ place in League One for the first time.
Co-Chairman Rod Taylor and Graham Howse on the return of Adams as manager said: “We are delighted to welcome Derek back as manager, as soon as Stephen Robinson had confirmed he was moving on, we started the process of finding a new manager immediately.
“Derek is someone who has already written himself into Morecambe history after leading the Club to League One level for the first time. He knows the place inside out and now returns to make further progress with us.
“He was the manager we earmarked straight away, we knew there would be a possibility that he would come back as we have a strong relationship with him, and after a whirlwind two days, we absolutely believe he is the right person to ensure our status in League One.
“We would like to thank Barry Roche for leading the team on Tuesday night against Rotherham United, which on another day, could have seen us leave South Yorkshire with a point, at least.
“This wasn’t the first time that Barry has stepped in while we looked to recruit a new manager, and we can not thank him enough for his unquestionable professionalism once again.
“We are sure you will all join us in wishing Derek the best of luck in the position, and will get behind him and the team as we look to pick up three valuable points against Ipswich Town on Saturday.”
Adams added: “I am really looking forward to it, we have obviously got a challenge between now and the end of the season to stay in League One, we are in the relegation zone at this moment in time.
“I know the football club well, they were very good to me when I was here before, the co-chairmen, the board of directors, the supporters, the staff and the players were fantastic and it was an really easy decision for me to come back.”
Adams will take training today ahead of our League One fixture at home to Ipswich Town this Saturday 26 February.

@jegolton:
Really pleased for him.
We can both put our nightmares behind us.
I wish Morecambe every success.
@RobSmith1992: Welcome back! Happy Thursday everyone! Get the shithouse tour on the road! UTFS
@PittsyNFL: Spits his dummy out at Bradford blaming fans rather than trying to find any issues.Good luck
@PauljackFarrar3: wasn’t good enough for us at all. lost the dressing room. blamed the fans for us losing. but back at his roots. Good luck to him
@andybaxter34: Could not hack it at big club. So back with tail between his legs. He will send you down!!! His football is awful
@BoltonWonderin: You’ve just been snaked by one manager going to a bigger club and now celebrating the last one who snaked you for a bigger club returning. Tinpot.
@pj_butcher: You should never have let him come and darken our door in the first place. Morecambe FC, you’ve got blood on your hands! At least you all now get to suffer watching the same Shit show we were treated to week in, week out on the pitch.
@Voodoov21: Bradford have agreed to terminate the contracts of Yann Songo’o and Oscar Threlkeld with immediate effect, so they can drive back with Del.
@shrimpsrus: im sorry but i really didn’t want adams back, cant help but feel like we will be relegated now
@tcbcafc: We paid them to take their manager whilst they appointed another that did the job, for them to be paid again by a club for taking the new manager, and then they appoint the original manager anyway after him being sacked by us who took him away in the first place. Shithouses.
@thomasbooth42: What a strange day already 😂😂
@MorecambeFCFeed: He rejected Hearts when he’d already given his word to our board. He stuck it out last season and remained professional despite being approached by other clubs, and completed the job. He admitted it was a “big risk” leaving for a League Two club. Derek, welcome back. 🏴
@thesoopabees: Who does he leave for next?
@wijnaldom: I have no words to describe the positive emotions I have for this appointment. He plays football the right way and he affected the club both on and off the field. Hopefully he can stay for a while and complete the work he began back in 19/20. Welcome back, LEGEND. #COYS
@kraigan_c: We actually paid them money for him to come and make us 10x worse, the fans all hate each other, we’ve got the worst team I’ve seen in my 23 years and now they’ve used the money we paid them to bring him back. Watch him keep them up as well.
@offtheequipment: Succeeded, went up a level. But chose to go down a level. Failed there, so now he’s back up a level
@JamesL0996: Whether people want him back or not, get behind him and lads – a huge few weeks coming up
ON PETERBOROUGH’S TWITTER:
@HMKD20: Odds on how long before he gets sacked and Darren Ferguson gets appointed
@HullCityLive: Wish you all the best after Saturday @grantmccann11
@MattFiasco: The club can confirm that talks are currently ongoing with Darren Ferguson to replace him
@JessicaaAC: Welcome home Grant, if you keep us up I’ll forgive THAT throw in 😂
@emmaverde9: 👏👏💙⚽️ Good News. Really looking forward to Saturday now 💙
@bob__p: Good appointment, we can build for the future. Unlikely we’ll stay up, but the next 14 games will allow Grant to assess the squad and prepare for next season. Important the owners back him in the transfer market. Good luck @grantmccann1
@LiamPitch: Buzzing with this. Grant is a different manager to what he was last time he was here. Let’s go for mission impossible @grantmccann11
@Callum_PUFC:
I wanna tell you
I might as well do
About a boy who can do anything 🔵
@dantjackson21: We’ve got our man – whether you like the appointment or not, a change has happened and it’s time to get behind them every Saturday and midweek without the social media bickering. I for one think there’s a lot of potential considering his achievements since leaving us. #UTP #PUFC
@Benj8764: Go for someone new? Always going back to managers who have failed in the past. I don’t get it personally.
@poshutpposh: fgs not this guy again, getting pissed off with the merry-go-round managers at this club
@CrispLevi: Honestly not been as happy about a manager appointment since Fergie came back the 2nd time. Just give him time, he’s a good manager and why would we want anybody else in charge #pufc
@petehinton8: I’d love to know the figure that Peterborough have paid to sack managers, just to re-appoint them again. Banter club
@JohnVerrall: Very happy about this. Never wanted the Warnock/Pulis type and with McCann we have one of the most promising up-and-coming managers in the FL. Likely to come too late for us to stay up, but gives us a real chance of building for the future.
@jcanham1986: Reason number 4644 why Peterborough will always get things wrong. Look outside your own team. Between McCann and Ferguson we’ve not tried anything new for literally decades.
