On a recent episode of the Therapy Crouch podcast, Peter Crouch tells the hilarious story of Bojan Krkić trying to pronounce ‘Morecambe’.
Crouchy shared a funny anecdote from his days at Stoke City, recalling how his Spanish teammate struggled to with the pronunciation, talking about an U21s EFL Trophy match in passing.
Crouch says it stuck with him to this day, left in stitches of laughter, but did also praised foreign players for bravely attempting English in diverse dressing rooms, contrasting it with English players abroad.
@thetherapycrouchThis pronunciation of Morecambe will live in my head forever! 😂

Peter Crouch: “Do know what I used to love? Because wherever in the change room, like Liverpool especially, all the Spanish lads and stuff, like when you hear them sometimes, like they…”
Abbey Clancy: “Get a twang? It’s like Didi Hamann. Full German scouse.”
Peter Crouch: “And a football dressing room especially is probably not the place for elocution lessons. There’s people from everywhere.
“And like you’ve got Northern, you know obviously Carra and then you’ve got like got some cockneys, people from Yorkshire and their mix of the English language is hilarious
“I mean Pepe Reina, some of the things you say we just used to absolutely…
“I remember playing with Bojan and we had Morecambe away and he said ‘who we play today Crouchy, who we play today?’ he goes ‘oh Morcumbee’. I showed him and he went ‘oh Morcumbee’
“He said ‘where abotus is Morcumbee?’. Belter. Ever since then, I swear, any time I ever see Morecambe, it’s ‘Morcumbee’.
“It’s so funny, but you know what the lads are so good like? They’ll have a go at anything, you know? They’re having a go at the language and as a teammate you just respect it so much that they’re trying their best to fit in with the lads.
“And it’s the same the other way I think when you look at, I think it was like Jonathan Woodgate and Steve McManaman and they got so much more respect for trying to learn the language because a lot of English will go there and just expect people to speak English to them.”
Another of our favourites was when Chelsea’s Eden Hazard accidentally mispronounced Shrewsbury as ‘Strawberry’ in an interview back in 2014.
A moment to forget from the last decade…when @hazardeden10 thought he had just played Strawberry Town 🍓 #Salop pic.twitter.com/uzZonXzNM9

‘I was on the bench for the game against Strawberry,’ he said, before the Chelsea presenter and on-pitch announcer Neil Barnett corrected him.
It seems he had absolutely no idea where he was on Tuesday night when Chelsea travelled to Shrewsbury for the EFL Cup, coming on in added time as the Blues scraped through 2-1 against their League Two opponents.
It was after he scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in the Blues’ next game, a 2-1 victory over QPR, when he mentioned about the Shrewsbury game.
Social media users gave their reaction after Peter Crouch tells hilarious story of Bojan trying to pronounce ‘Morecambe’…
@SCFCJosh96: definitely going to call them More-Cam-Be from now on
@joelshooter47: Great, but hang on a minute – has Bojan ever been in a Stoke squad vs Morecambe!? Only fixture I can find during his time there is an U21s Checkatrade match he doesn’t appear to have been a part of. Maybe a friendly? Or they just mentioned the U21s match in passing? Yep, seems it was a passing reference to the U21s game in – so looks like it happened, but not quite in the way described like him and Bojan actually might be playing us 😅
@L_reid3: Be surprised how many English people call it the same thing 😂
@portion_police: I am from Morcumbee, and I approve this message! 😆🦐 #Morecambe #Shrimps @Morecambebob1
@Yellows4Life: it surprises me how many English people still spell it wrong
@morecambe_hisp: At least in Spain everyone pronounces it like that 😂
gingerjedi: we always say that here in Yorkshire @ThatPeterCrouchPodcast
Ad Nonin: Makes it sound very exotic
Spark: “Not the place for eloclution lessons” 🤣
ian: moracambee sounds like a nice place to visit, imagine the disappointment
connor_rice10: this geezer helps my mental health so much 😂 every night the podcast is on 😂 class
DJCoppertop: only the Spanish could make morecambe sound like an exotic destination 😂
