Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has been hilariously trolled by Newcastle United’s Allan Saint-Maximin for getting his name wrong.
It was an action packed game between the Magpies and Southampton at St James’ Park on Saturday, but following a 3-2 win for Steve Bruce’s side, Allan Saint-Maximin open the Twitter app.
He noticed that Merse had been mispronouncing the Frenchman’s name ‘Sam Maximus’ all afternoon on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday and the Frenchman couldn’t resist joining in the fun.
🗣 “They’re looking for Saint Maximus.”

“Congrats to our new players @Joewillock and Sam Maximus for their game! @PaulMerse told me that you did well guys” he tweeted.
Paul Merson saw that he was tagged in the Premier League player’s tweet and replied back to him before too long.
He said: “Apologies mate 🤣.. well played to both of you today 👏🏻”

Saint-Maximin helped Newcastle win what could be a vital three points, and now he’d won Twitter for the weekend too.
He didn’t finished there either, he then went one troll further, by editing his Twitter profile and updated his Twitter name to match Merson’s mispronunciation.
He is now officially known as Sam Maximus to his 195.5k followers right now on the social media app.
Fans were left in hysterics at his actions and someone also took it upon themselves to edit his name over on his official Wikipedia page, with the player then retweeting the post.

Twitter users continued to react as Paul Merson was hilariously trolled by Saint-Maximin, see what they wrote below…
@Chrisharte81: Did Jeff write that for merse?
@LeDreamboat: Absolutely Roasted 🤣
@PipTolliss1: Well for me…..this is what makes @SoccerSaturday. Love @PaulMerse & his inability to pronounce names! We’d all be moaning if it was sodding boring! And @JeffStelling & Bianca Wayward just killed me!
@scott861987: Another one for the scrapbook
@PaulDav86486288: Hey Merse , a professional pundit ? His name is Allan Saint-Maximin ! are you back on the old diamond white lad ?
@jaycmoore90: Do you ever just think about being professional and making sure you get people’s names right!? It’s not that hard and your being paid a wedge to literally watch football. Just a thought Mers.
@ToonMouthTyne: All jokes aside, you’re paid HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of pounds to learn player’s names correctly. It’s literally your job. Pretty poor, you agree?
@alwaysagooner83: Don’t change Merse! It’s all we watch it for 🤣🤣👏🏻👏🏻
@thenordicwolf1: fair play Merse
@TSkellam: Obviously back on the sniff/sauce!!
@rough_justice76: Superb. Don’t ever change.
@isaolinat: Can you believe he actually gets paid to do this
@BlackBeard1984: @chris_kammy thinks Obafemi Martins plays for the Saints, so this was an easy mistake to make Merse
@morale_officer: At least with Merson you know it’s not offensive!
It wasn’t just Paul Merson struggling with names, as Jeff Stelling also got mixed up, and then mocked on social media for it.
Leicester City’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, currently on loan at Championship outfit Luton Town, also spoke out after hearing the Jeff kept getting his name wrong.
Reporter Bianca Westwood tweeted: “Did Jeff just say Kieran again & not Kiernan??”
Dewsbury-Hall then quote retweeted her, saying: “Yeah you’re killing me here @JeffStelling 🤣 got it right then changed it back to Kieran.. 😅”
It comes a week after Jeff Stelling first got his name wrong, Twitter users took to complain, with Jeff then tweeting: “Ok next time I will get it ! Keirnan Dewsbury Ball ! Wish I had stuck to Kevin . Sorry to his army of fans.”
Seems he still couldn’t right on Saturday afternoon and he was once again reminded of the correct way to say the footballer’s first name.
Viewers were left amused last Saturday afternoon with how Paul Merson pronounces ‘Batshuayi’ when reporting on Sky Sports.
He was giving updates to fans on Crystal Palace’s 1-0 win over Wolves, however he couldn’t say the Premier League forward’s name right and it got social media users talking online.
Instead of calling the 27 year old by his proper name ‘Batshuayi’, he instead decided to repetitively pronounce it as ‘Batswari’.
Many viewers picked up on it and were left amused with how Paul Merson pronounces ‘Batshuayi’.
Some couldn’t help but mock him with one suggesting it sounded like he was trying to order a curry.
@DanK_Boyy: Is Paul Merson ordering a fucking curry or trying to pronounce Batshuayi
@adambecket: Paul Merson calls Michy Batshuayi “Batswari” lol
@NickTooze1: Someone tell paul Merson how to say Batshuayi
@ForeverAYellow: Ok, the way Merse calls Batshauyi is really getting to me know. Someone, please tell him he’s saying it wrong! Proper annoying by full time lol
@callumrjb: Paul Merson has just pronounced Batshuayi as Batswah
